Chapter 130: There Is a Kind of Person Known as the Pretend Underachiever
Among the onlookers, someone stared at Ye Luo, who was still racing through the exam papers, with an expression of pure adoration. "This must be what they call a legendary academic god," they sighed in awe.
"If she doesn't count as an academic god, then who does? She definitely is!" another person chimed in, even more excited and starstruck. "From now on, I’m not praying to Academic Star Shen before exams; I’m praying to her every single day!"
Hearing this, Ye Wuqi and his friends gathered around Ye Luo, clapping their hands and chanting rhythmically, "Academic God! Academic God! Academic God! Academic God!"
Ye Luo, however, remained focused, her pen flying across the paper. She had made a promise to the ancestor, and she intended to deliver a resounding slap in the face to those who doubted her.
In just twelve minutes, she had finished the mathematics, comprehensive sciences, foreign language, and Chinese papers. She left the listening portion of the foreign language exam blank, as there was no audio playing on-site, but that did nothing to hinder her ascension to legendary status.
Because, aside from the listening section, every single answer was correct.
In such a short amount of time, every answer was perfect.
The teachers, including the principal, were left stunned. Even Song Linfeng, standing under a tree not far away, was struck dumb.
Only Gong Lü watched her with an appreciative gaze.
"Academic God! Academic God! Academic God!" Spurred on by Ye Wuqi and the others, the rest of the students joined in, their voices rising in a chorus of genuine admiration and worship.
Ye Luo set down her pen. Even as everyone around her cheered and hailed her as an academic god, her expression remained indifferent, devoid of any emotional fluctuation. She had simply fulfilled her promise to the ancestor; as for whether or not she was an academic god, she couldn't care less.
As soon as Principal Chen recovered from his shock, he turned to face Gong Ran, who was still standing there, dazed and unable to process what had happened. With a formal tone, he said, "Student Gong Ran, in accordance with school regulations, as I stated just moments ago: because you slandered a fellow student for cheating and caused a severely negative impact, you are hereby issued a major demerit. The school will also post a formal notice of criticism on the bulletin board."
With that, Principal Chen walked away, accompanied by the dean of students.
Gong Ran continued to stare at the test papers, muttering blankly, "This is impossible... it's impossible..."
Teacher Li, the homeroom teacher for Class 1 of the Science stream—and Gong Ran's own teacher—felt embarrassed, yet he spoke up: "Student Ye Luo has already proven herself. The entire faculty and student body have seen it, and you have seen it too, Gong Ran. Stop deceiving yourself."
Hearing this, Gong Ran roared at Teacher Li, "It's impossible!"
Then, as if she had lost her mind, she shrieked at Ye Luo, "You were a bottom-tier student! How can this be? How is it possible? It's impossible! Absolutely impossible!"
The onlookers burst into laughter.
Before Ye Wuqi and his friends could even speak up for Ye Luo, someone in the crowd shouted at Gong Ran, "Miss Gong, haven't you ever heard of a species called a 'fake underachiever'?"
At this, the crowd erupted into even louder laughter. Ye Wuqi and his friends were doubled over in amusement.
Gong Ran felt as if she had been struck by lightning. She froze, completely stunned, unable to respond. That was right... there were indeed people who were merely pretending to be underachievers.
Ye Luo remained expressionless. However, noticing Shen Jing—with her small stature and bewildered demeanor—struggling to push through the crowd, only to be turned around and accidentally shoved further toward the outside, Ye Luo could only remain silent.
She didn't bother going over to tell Shen Jing that she was pushing in the wrong direction.
Ye Wuqi followed Ye Luo’s gaze and saw Shen Jing desperately trying to squeeze into the center to see the excitement, only to find herself head-butting her way out instead. He sighed, "Sister Luo, isn't it strange? Academic Star Shen is once again living in a completely different world from the rest of us."
Ye Luo said nothing.
