Chapter 17: Gong Lü Had to Undergo Treatment Again?!
"OK, OK." Lei Xingxing buried her head in her bowl, devouring the braised pork over rice as she cheerfully accepted the meal card.
Yan Baba, his anger completely dissipated, even praised her between bites, "Eggie, you really know the ropes. I've never met a girl more on the ball than you."
Ye Luo said nothing.
After finishing their meal in the cafeteria, Ye Luo and her companions returned to the classroom.
The afternoon unfolded much like the morning: Ye Wuqi napped again; Yan Baba played games on his phone; Lei Xingxing listened attentively to the lesson; as for Ye Luo, she absorbed even more knowledge unique to this era.
At Seventh High, all grades from sophomore to senior year had evening self-study sessions.
But the science Class 19 of sophomore year had long since been abandoned; students didn't even have to inform the teachers if they skipped class. Evening study was entirely optional—come if you wish, skip if you like.
The ancestral spirit was a boarder, and the school tyrant wouldn't show up again today, so after the last class, Ye Luo returned to the villa without concern.
As for that school tyrant, the next time she saw him, she would make sure to teach him a lesson so he'd never dare bully her ancestor again.
What Ye Luo didn't know was that as she rode back to the villa, Ye Wuqi was leaning against a corner outside the school wall, watching her car grow smaller and smaller as it drove away.
Only when the car vanished entirely from sight did Ye Wuqi take out his phone and dial a number labeled "Brother."
The call connected after just two rings.
Ye Wuqi immediately said with a grin, "Lu, that girl you've been looking after is really something. I don't know why, but even though she barely shows any expression and doesn't talk much, I feel like she's pretty nice to me. She even gave me her meal card to use however I want. Ha! The funniest part is, she doesn't even realize that I am—"
Before he could finish, the voice on the other end interrupted impatiently, "This is Song Linfeng."
"Eh? Song?" Ye Wuqi was genuinely surprised. "Why are you answering? Where's Lu?"
Song Linfeng replied, more irritated, "He’s sick—gone for treatment again!"
"Damn it!" Ye Wuqi kicked over a nearby trash can, his eyes reddening with fury. He ground his teeth. "One day, I'll kill that old witch!"
...
By the time Ye Luo returned to the villa, the sun had already set.
The butler was visibly surprised to see her. "Miss Luo, don't you have evening self-study? Why are you back?"
"Didn't feel like going."
"Ah?" The butler was stunned.
He wanted to persuade her but dared not.
The truth was, he was rather afraid of the current Miss Luo.
He quietly tried to call Gong Lu, hoping he would convince her to attend evening self-study, but no matter how many times he dialed, he couldn't get through.
Ye Luo noticed the butler making secret phone calls but said nothing. She simply continued into the dining room to have dinner.
She dined alone once again.
According to He Luo's memories, Gong Lu had never once eaten with her. He rarely returned to this villa.
Ye Luo felt nothing in particular toward Gong Lu—he was as distant as a stranger. Whether he joined her for a meal or returned home at all was of no consequence to her.
After dinner, Ye Luo picked up her backpack and headed upstairs.
She showered, dried her hair, and donned a pale blue set of pajamas before sitting at her computer. Her fingers flew across the keyboard as she continued working on her translation software.
She had started writing the code the previous night.
This software, of course, was nothing like the translation tools of the present, all of which had their issues. The one she was creating would be flawless—a translation software three centuries ahead of its time.
She needed money, and for now, this was her way to earn it.
