Chapter 26: If You Have the Guts, Leave Earth and Make Yourself Impossible to Find
“This computer is off-limits to everyone from now on,” Gong Lu instructed.
“Yes, sir.”
When he returned to the sunroom, he picked up his tea, took a slow sip, and finally curled his lips in a faint smile. His thin lips parted, and he murmured, “Things are getting more interesting.”
…
When Ye Luo came home, she saw Gong Lu in the sunroom, but acted as if she hadn’t noticed him, continuing into the house.
Uncle Wang was in the living room, directing the servants as they arranged potted plants. When he saw her, he hurriedly stopped his instructions and smiled, asking, “Miss, these potted plants just arrived. Do you see any you like? Would you like a few placed in your bedroom?”
Ye Luo glanced around, seeing none that appealed to her. Her tone remained flat as she asked, “Are there any snake plants?”
“Yes, yes, yes,” Uncle Wang replied eagerly. “We have several, both short-leaved and long-leaved. They’re in the garden though, not brought inside yet. Which variety would you like? I’ll have someone fetch them.”
“No need, I’ll go get it myself.”
With that, Ye Luo put down her backpack and headed toward the garden.
She had only taken a few steps when An Qianqian’s voice called after her from behind, “Luo Luo! Luo Luo!”
Ye Luo didn’t even turn her head, continuing on her way to the garden.
An Qianqian ground her teeth in frustration, but kept a smile on her face as she turned to Uncle Wang, blocking his path. “Uncle Wang, it was all my fault before. I was too jealous. As soon as I realized, I wanted to apologize to Luo Luo, but I was in the hospital and couldn’t come. Now that I’m out, I came straight here to apologize to her properly.”
“Apologize? Then go ahead.”
“Thank you, Uncle Wang!” Only then did An Qianqian go after Ye Luo.
As soon as she turned her back on Uncle Wang and the servants, the smile vanished from An Qianqian’s face, replaced by spite.
She wasn’t here to apologize.
She was here to settle the score.
Damn it! That wretched girl had dared, in a moment of impulse, to throw her down the stairs! Did she really think hiding at No. 7 Middle School would keep her safe? Today, she would make her realize there’s no medicine for regret—every reckless act comes with a price!
All An Qianqian could think about now was teaching Ye Luo a lesson. Her eyes were fixed only on Ye Luo heading toward the garden, completely missing Gong Lu, who sat leisurely sipping tea in the sunroom beside the garden.
Ye Luo, unconcerned whether An Qianqian followed, entered the garden and immediately spotted several pots of snake plants among the other greenery.
She liked snake plants. Their leaves were broad, upright, brightly colored, full of vitality. They were hardy, drought- and shade-resistant, not as beautiful as flowers, but exuded a remarkable resilience.
She was especially fond of the short-leaved variety.
There were only three pots of short-leaved snake plants. Ye Luo squatted down and selected the one most to her liking.
Just then, An Qianqian caught up.
Seeing they were out of sight of Uncle Wang and the servants, An Qianqian abandoned all pretense. She raised her foot and kicked at Ye Luo’s back as she squatted.
Grinding her teeth, she hissed, “He Luo, you damn well deserve a lesson. Hiding at No. 7 Middle School—how pathetic. If you had guts, you’d leave the planet so I couldn’t find you… Ah—!”
Before the curse was finished, An Qianqian let out a scream.
Ye Luo, hugging her chosen snake plant, deftly dodged the kick. An Qianqian, having put all her strength into it, couldn’t pull her leg back in time, and ended up doing a spectacular vertical split, landing abruptly on the ground.
