Just at that moment, Ye Luo looked over as well. Her expression was blank, her gaze calm, yet there was not a trace of warmth in her eyes. It was as if she had been born without it.

“She really is different now,” Gong Lu lowered his head with a faint smile.

Song Linfeng and Uncle Wang, however, were deeply unsettled. Was this truly He Luo? She was so changed that they barely dared to meet her eyes.

But just then, Gong Lu lifted his eyes to look at Ye Luo. “Well done.”

It was not a rebuke, but praise…

Ye Luo’s brows furrowed almost imperceptibly. The memories that had just surged into her mind seemed to contain this person.

Song Linfeng and Uncle Wang were both surprised. Even if he didn’t scold her, praise seemed far too much… Wouldn’t this spoil Miss Luo?

Seeing Ye Luo remain silent, and still leaning against the doorway, Gong Lu showed no intention of lingering.

“Keep it up.”

With that, he turned and left without so much as another glance at Ye Luo.

In the past, Uncle Wang would certainly have stepped forward to comfort her. Now, though, this new Miss Luo made him uneasy, and he dared not approach. Instead, he hurried off with Song Linfeng.

Before leaving, Uncle Wang did not forget to pull the kicked-in door closed for Ye Luo.

The lock was broken, so the door could only be pushed to, but Ye Luo did not mind.

She cared little that Gong Lu and the others had left.

Expressionless, Ye Luo turned her gaze back to the mirror.

The face staring back at her wasn’t hers at all…

Memories that didn’t belong to her kept flooding in, more and more, until after fifteen minutes, Ye Luo finally understood her circumstances.

This wasn’t her body—it belonged to someone named He Luo.

He Luo, eighteen, a senior at No. 9 High School in S City, infamous for her terrible grades—the worst of the worst, always coming in dead last on every exam.

Originally, He Luo didn’t attend No. 9 High; she was at a small-town school. Later, Gong Lu transferred her.

Gong Lu?

He was the one temporarily responsible for her.

He Luo’s mother died in childbirth, leaving her with only her father. One day, on his way to work at the factory, her father came across a car accident. Being a good man, he rescued a boy trapped inside. Just after he pulled the boy free, the leaking car exploded.

Thanks to He Luo’s father, the boy survived.

That boy was Gong Lu.

A year ago, when He Luo’s father fell seriously ill and was dying, he asked Gong Lu to take care of his daughter until she graduated from university. Gong Lu agreed.

He then transferred He Luo from her small-town school to No. 9 High in the city and brought her to live in his villa.

Yet, because He Luo was so timid, self-effacing, and fearful, Gong Lu never particularly liked her, though he never treated her poorly.

Anything He Luo asked for, he would give her if he could. If she was bullied and he found out, he would always defend her.

Unfortunately, He Luo was often bullied, but she could count on one hand the times she told Gong Lu.

She knew Gong Lu was good to her. He was handsome, capable, and at just twenty-two had already built the Gong family into the most powerful in S City. Growing up in a small town, she’d never met a man like him, and so she secretly fell for him.

But because of her shyness and lack of confidence, she didn’t dare confess her feelings, only writing them in her diary.

Who could have known An Qianqian would find out?

An Qianqian, born to a wealthy family and daughter of Gong Lu’s mother’s friend, had liked Gong Lu since childhood. Spoiled and domineering, once she learned He Luo liked Gong Lu and was living in his private villa, she feared He Luo would steal him away, and so began tormenting her every day.
