Ye Luo immediately turned to look at Gong Lu. Had he instructed this before picking her up from school? Wasn’t it only on the drive home that he discovered her extraordinary hearing? And how did he know that even the slightest sound would disturb her sleep?

The moment Gong Lu saw her turn, he smiled, folding his arms as if his body lacked any bones, lazily leaning to the side. Yet he offered no answer to the question in her eyes.

Ye Luo didn’t press further. Instead, she said three words to Uncle Wang, “No need.”

Uncle Wang looked troubled, glancing at Gong Lu.

Gong Lu didn’t speak to Uncle Wang either, only smiled at her, “Are you sulking with me?”

Ye Luo replied coldly, “Arrogance must have its limits.”

Uncle Wang’s eyes widened instantly. Miss Luo’s courage was growing; she was becoming increasingly blunt with the master. And somehow, the master was treating her better and better...

Gong Lu, unbothered, laughed and asked, “Then why don’t you stay in the better room?”

Feeling it best to clarify—and to mention her plan to move out—Ye Luo answered, “Because I’ll be leaving in a few days. I don’t want the hassle of moving back and forth.”

She had already earned enough for a house last night; today, she’d spent the whole day at school browsing listings on her phone and had made contact with several agents. Tomorrow, she would view apartments in person, and if any suited her, she would buy it.

Gong Lu was stunned for a moment, then laughed even more. “What, afraid you’re really her, so you want to run?”

Ye Luo didn’t want to dignify that with a response, but her explanation wasn’t finished. So she ignored his question and continued, “I’ve lived here for over a year—the food, the drinks, the lodging, the amenities. I’ll calculate the costs and repay you. Give me your account number, and I’ll transfer the money.”

“Then we owe each other nothing?” Gong Lu raised his brows, catching her words.

That was precisely what Ye Luo meant, so she didn’t object.

“Miss Luo—” Uncle Wang grew anxious, wanting to persuade her to stay. But as soon as he started, Gong Lu’s gaze swept over him, silencing him at once. He stood aside, worrying in silence.

Gong Lu, still languidly leaning, lowered his head slightly, smiling as he brushed aside his fringe, then said carelessly, “Luo, you still don’t understand this world.”

At least, you haven’t grasped my era completely.

He left the second sentence unsaid.

Sensing a hidden meaning, Ye Luo frowned, “What do you mean?”

Gong Lu didn’t elaborate, only smiled, “You’re welcome to try. Let’s see if you can truly move out.”

With that, he straightened, no longer lounging, smiled, and walked past her with long strides, heading upstairs.

Ye Luo’s brow furrowed deeply.

Was it possible she couldn’t leave after all?

No matter what, she had to try.

She refused to believe this man could control everything.

Having resolved this, Ye Luo naturally refused to move next door to Gong Lu.

Uncle Wang had plenty to say, still hoping Ye Luo wouldn’t consider moving out. He felt it was unwise for a girl, only a high school senior, without family, to live alone. But the master’s warning glance had told him plainly not to interfere, so he kept his thoughts to himself.

Ye Luo went upstairs too, but she hadn’t been there half an hour before she was summoned down for dinner.

Entering the dining room, she saw that on the long table, only her usual seat was set with dishes. Gong Lu’s seat at the other end had neither food nor utensils.
