White Xu’s words brought Jiang Muwen’s hands to an abrupt halt. She knew her skills were clumsy, but she had never imagined they could be this hopeless. For one fleeting instant, she even thought of giving up.

She stared at Wen Yichen for a long while, and in the end stubbornly lifted her hand again, carefully beginning to draw on his face.

Wen Yichen sat there obediently, his long lashes trembling faintly now and then. At last, unable to hold back, he said, “If you can’t do it, forget it.”

Looking at the face she had turned into a disaster, Jiang Muwen finally reached an understanding with him. “White Xu, do you have anything to remove makeup with?”

After Jiang Muwen had finished taking off Wen Yichen’s makeup, Wen Yichen slowly opened his eyes. He looked up at her, then made to rise from the chair.

Before he could stand, the force at his shoulders pressed him back down again. Jiang Muwen turned around, and with the conviction that “eyeliner may be impossible, but lipstick should still be manageable,” she picked a tube of lipstick from the makeup bag.

“Then let’s just do lipstick.”

Though Jiang Muwen did not know how to do makeup, she seemed to have taken enormous interest in making up Wen Yichen.

She twisted open the lipstick, then bent down. At that moment, Jiang Muwen was facing Wen Yichen, standing directly before him in an extremely awkward posture.

Just as she was about to begin, she felt the stance was inconvenient, so she straightened again, shifted a little, moved to another angle, and bent down once more. Yet it still felt wrong, and helplessly, she moved once again to the other side.

Thus the girl kept circling in front of Wen Yichen for quite a while, without managing to put any lipstick on him.

Wen Yichen seemed to be growing irritated as well. As she turned to search for yet another suitable angle, he lazily reached out his hand. In the next second, a force settled at Jiang Muwen’s waist. With a light pull, she stumbled as though losing all balance, then landed squarely on his lap.

Once she was safely seated on Wen Yichen’s legs, Jiang Muwen froze. She stared blankly at him, a trace of surprise still lingering in her eyes, lipstick held half-raised, unable to say a single word.

The suddenness of it all left White Xu, standing to the side, equally stunned. His mouth hung open in astonishment, and for a long time he could not utter a word.

Only Wen Yichen remained calm, as though nothing at all had happened. His gaze rested leisurely on Jiang Muwen as he parted his lips and said in a low, even voice, “Weren’t you going to help me put on lipstick?”

White Xu’s words brought Jiang Muwen back to herself. It was true enough, but applying lipstick like this—wasn’t that a little too intimate?

“Ah, this classroom is so stuffy. I’m going out for some air.” As he spoke, White Xu turned and headed for the door. At first he had not felt especially unnecessary, but after Wen Yichen’s sudden pull, he abruptly felt like a glaringly overpowered light bulb, far too eye-catching to ignore.

With a soft thud, the sound of the door closing reached them, and silence settled over the room.

Jiang Muwen sat sideways, her face faintly flushed, staring dazedly at Wen Yichen. Although it was quite comfortable sitting like this, in such a posture she simply could not bring herself to do it.

She was truly too embarrassed to admit that even this way of drawing on lipstick felt a little inconvenient.

Just as reason was urging her to get off Wen Yichen’s lap, emotion was already raging wildly in her mind. Why get down? The longer she could stay, the better. Was Wen Yichen’s leg uncomfortable? Or was this not a good look for him?

At last, Jiang Muwen gathered her courage, carefully twisting her body to sit a little farther back. That way, applying lipstick should be easier.

Naively, she thought that as long as she moved carefully enough, Wen Yichen would not feel a thing. Little did she know that the more cautious and unhurried she was, the more uncomfortable he became. It was as if a feather were gently brushing over him, from head to toe, leaving his whole body faintly hot.

Finally, Jiang Muwen stopped. Yet this posture still seemed a little awkward.

If only the other hand could rest on him, support him.

Thinking that, her other hand began to lift slowly, almost of its own accord. But when it reached the air, she paused again. Was this a little too presumptuous?

“If you want to hold on, then hold on.”

At last, Wen Yichen spoke. His tone was calm, yet it sent ripples spreading through Jiang Muwen’s heart.

After her brief surprise, a smile rose unconsciously at the corners of her mouth, one she herself did not even notice, as though secretly pleased.

At last she lifted her hand, parting the wig that had fallen over Wen Yichen’s shoulder, then carefully hooked her arm around his neck. The warm, smooth touch made Jiang Muwen’s heart race all at once.

But how could she know that the instant her fingertips pushed aside his wig and curled around his neck, his body had instinctively tightened as well. In his mind, the image of Jiang Muwen on the day she had been drunk surfaced once more. That innocent face and those misty eyes seemed to overlap with the girl before him.

“Wen Yichen, we seem like we’re having an affair right now.”

The words Jiang Muwen had said to him that day echoed again in his mind. Right now, the two of them alone in the classroom really did seem like they were having an affair.

Wen Yichen, who had never experienced matters of the heart, could hardly bear such a scene. He kept up a façade of composure as he looked at Jiang Muwen, waiting for her to continue applying the lipstick.

“Wen Yichen,” Jiang Muwen called to him softly.

“Yes?”

“Are you uncomfortable?” Jiang Muwen asked, her face slightly red, her voice light and a little soft.

The reason she asked was that beneath her, she could feel a subtle change, as if something were pressing against her. She knew that change came from Wen Yichen.

But she was too embarrassed to ask him directly, so she could only probe indirectly.

Yes, he was uncomfortable. He could never have imagined that his own body would lose control at a time like this.

At Jiang Muwen’s question, Wen Yichen gave an awkward cough. Then, in the next moment, he took the lipstick from her hand.

“Yes, a little. You should get down.”

As soon as he finished speaking, Jiang Muwen stood up obediently, her face red. Her eyes instinctively darted toward the place she should not have looked, and with just that one glance, heat suddenly rushed to her cheeks. The instant her gaze met Wen Yichen’s, she panicked and quickly looked away on purpose, staring somewhere else instead.

“I-I didn’t see anything.”
