Chapter One Hundred and Five: Bed Slam (Second Update)
The sunlight happened to fall just right, neither too much nor too little, upon the girl’s profile. She wore a faint smile, her gaze seeming to drift toward the distance.
Jiang Muwen did not seem to remember ever seeing this photograph. Had Wen Yichen secretly taken it of her?
Before she could even make out the image of herself in the picture, his hand had already reached over.
“Hand me the phone.”
At that, Jiang Muwen’s interest was piqued as well. The moment Wen Yichen reached out, she was quick as a flash, springing up from her chair.
“Nope.”
“Jiang Muwen.”
Wen Yichen looked at her like a child whose little secret had been caught, and the instant he saw her leap up from the chair, his heart began to race. Heaven knew whether Jiang Muwen would keep scrolling, but at that moment, all he wanted was to catch this little girl darting about like a restless sparrow.
“Give me the phone,” Wen Yichen said as he rose from his chair, ready to go after her.
“It’s just a phone. What, is there something you can’t let me see?” Jiang Muwen ran from the desk to the bedside, both hands hidden behind her back.
There was nothing unspeakable in the phone. There was only something that could not be seen by Jiang Muwen.
The two of them paused there for a moment before Wen Yichen could no longer hold back.
“Give it to me.”
He looked at her anxiously, truly afraid that all those little secrets in the phone would be laid bare before Jiang Muwen.
“No.”
Jiang Muwen stubbornly tightened her grip on the phone. Seeing him coming toward her, she flinched and tried to slip past him.
But before she could get away, he had already caught her in his arms.
Jiang Muwen had not even reacted before she was suddenly pulled into a warm embrace. Wen Yichen must truly have been in a panic to snatch at the phone in her hands like this.
“Give it to me.”
As he spoke, he reached out again, intent on taking the phone she had hidden behind her back.
“I won’t.”
Jiang Muwen said this and nimbly brought the phone back around to the front, preparing to escape from his side.
He had meant only to keep her still, but the girl in his arms was far too unruly. After a brief loss of balance, he staggered forward two steps.
A sudden force pressed in on Jiang Muwen, driving her back two stumbling steps. Then, before she knew it, her whole body tilted as if losing all sense of balance, falling backward.
The pain she had expected never came.
She landed instead on Wen Yichen’s soft bed, and in the next second, Wen Yichen fell on top of her as well.
He landed squarely on Jiang Muwen. Fortunately, his elbows were braced against the bed, or else his whole weight might have crushed down on her.
That indescribable position made the atmosphere in the room turn all the more intimate. The girl looked at the boy in astonishment, at a loss for what to do.
Their faces were only inches apart. Their breaths were warm, and within that warmth there was also a trace of urgency.
Their bodies were pressed together, and the two of them were thrown into disarray. Through the thin layer of clothing, they could feel each other’s body heat.
“Wen Yichen.”
At last, Jiang Muwen broke the brief silence in a soft, babyish voice.
That gentle, tender tone was nothing short of a fatal blow to the boy before her. His heart gave a heavy thump, and then a wave of heat quickly began to spread through the air around them.
The last remnants of his reason urged him to let go of the girl beneath him, yet his emotions, like wildly growing vines, surged outward in an instant and swallowed that reason whole.
Jiang Muwen was still clutching Wen Yichen’s phone tightly. The position was a little uncomfortable for her, and she carefully shifted her hand, intending only to change her posture. But the moment she moved slightly, his wrist was caught in his grip.
His palm was very hot. The instant it touched her wrist, her whole body trembled.
“Where do you think you’re running off to?”
At last, Wen Yichen spoke.
“I…”
Jiang Muwen looked at him, a suspicious blush slowly rising across her face.
He loosened her hand a little, trying to take the phone from her palm, but he never would have imagined that she would be gripping it so tightly.
“Give it to me.”
“No.”
Jiang Muwen looked at him stubbornly. Her fair face was still tinged with that alluring flush.
“Wen Yichen, does your phone actually have something shady in it? Why are you so nervous?”
As she spoke, she shifted her hand again, but in the next instant, Wen Yichen’s hand came down over hers once more. This time, his grip was even tighter.
“Do I need to teach you what it means not to go snooping through someone else’s phone?”
His voice was low and husky. His warm breath brushed her face now and then. It should have been a stern remark, but when it came from Wen Yichen’s mouth, it somehow took on a trace of intimacy.
“Then tell me what’s really in your phone. Why did you secretly take my picture?” Jiang Muwen’s face was red as she spoke. She looked almost as if she had been bullied, though her own side of the argument was not especially strong.
The more she looked like that, the more Wen Yichen wanted to bully her.
“Then tell me what exactly your relationship is with Gu Niancun.”
He did not answer her directly.
She had never seen Wen Yichen ask anything so bluntly before. The question startled her badly. Was he... jealous?
“I don’t have the slightest relationship with him,” Jiang Muwen blinked, her voice carrying a hint of grievance. “I don’t like him.”
She did not like Gu Niancun. The one she liked was the boy right before her eyes.
Hearing that, Wen Yichen was unexpectedly filled with delight. The fingers holding her wrist twitched ever so slightly, and a relieved smile flickered through his eyes before slowly settling back into calm.
The room fell quiet. Wen Yichen looked at the girl before him, and an indescribable joy suddenly rose in his heart. Now, if he only leaned forward a little, he could kiss those rosy lips of hers.
His thoughts were somehow carried back to that afternoon when she had been drunk. Those soft lips, the faint taste of alcohol between them; it all felt as if it had happened only yesterday. Did she still remember that kiss?
As Wen Yichen looked at Jiang Muwen and recalled everything that had happened that day, he suddenly felt a little hot all over. His blood began to rush faster, and a trace of dazed intensity gradually colored his clear eyes. His gaze drifted lazily down to her lips.
Then, all at once, he seemed to feel something warm sliding down from his nose.
Before he could react, Jiang Muwen spoke up weakly, testing the words as she called his name. Her eyes were fixed tightly on the handsome, fair, and faintly flushed face of the boy before her.
“Wen Yichen, you’re bleeding from your nose.”
