Chapter 111: Ambiguity (Second Update)

Jiang Muwen stared intently at the young boy before her. Wen Yichen’s words, “Have you come across something you really want again?” echoed in her mind. Then, without thinking, she blurted out, “You.”
The moment the words left her lips, a sudden flush of heat rose to her ears. Only then did she realize what she had just said—something she shouldn’t have. It must have been the deadly moonlight and the night, so inviting and disarming, that had caused her mind to short-circuit.
Jiang Muwen’s words startled Wen Yichen as well. His heart skipped a beat, and he turned his head, eyes wide with surprise.
“Guess,” Jiang Muwen feigned an unfinished remark, watching as Wen Yichen remained silent for a long moment. Then she added, “I told you to guess.”
Breathing heavily.
Wen Yichen looked at Jiang Muwen, the surprise in his eyes gradually fading. What replaced it was a faint trace of disappointment—so he had been hoping for something after all.
Wen Yichen composed his expression, adopting a calm demeanor as he averted his gaze and said lightly, “I don’t want to guess.”
Jiang Muwen watched him. At this moment, he carried an uncommon hint of tsundere charm, and she had to admit, this feeling matched the boy before her unexpectedly well. Taking advantage of Wen Yichen’s distraction, Jiang Muwen cautiously edged closer to him, and soon they were pressed tightly together.
The air fell into silence again. With their bodies so close, she could even feel the warmth radiating through the thin fabric of their clothes.
“Wen Yichen,” Jiang Muwen finally called softly, her voice as gentle and clingy as a kitten’s.
“Hmm?”
“Wen Yichen, what if I said—what if…”
Her tone suggested she was about to ask something significant.
She fidgeted nervously, her fingers picking at her sleeve intermittently. Wen Yichen instinctively reached out to hold her restless hands down.

“If…” Jiang Muwen continued carefully, “If you ever have a girlfriend in the future, would you bring her to show me?”
Though her voice was quiet, the question hit the calm surface like a massive stone, sending ripples high into the air.
Wen Yichen’s heart trembled, and his fingertips twitched slightly. A girlfriend—it was a thought he’d never really entertained, especially if that girl wasn’t Jiang Muwen.
He couldn’t imagine anyone else beside him who would endure his brooding nature or tolerate his jealous tantrums.
If the girlfriend wasn’t Jiang Muwen—after a moment’s thought, Wen Yichen reached a conclusion: there was no “if.” To him, it seemed impossible for anyone other than Jiang Muwen to be by his side.
“And you?” Wen Yichen didn’t answer her question directly. Instead, he threw it back at her.
His sudden question startled Jiang Muwen.
She had never considered having a boyfriend other than Wen Yichen.
“I…” Jiang Muwen paused. It was the first time she had forced herself to imagine what it would be like if the person next to her wasn’t Wen Yichen. But no matter who it might be, surely there would be a reflection of Wen Yichen within them.
The breeze made her eyes sting slightly; she blinked and quickly withdrew her thoughts.
If it wasn’t Wen Yichen by her side in the future…
“I don’t want any other boyfriend,” Jiang Muwen muttered under her breath, lowering her gaze.
Wen Yichen raised an eyebrow, sensing that her words carried deeper meaning.
He turned to face her fully, his strong hand resting on the ground beside her. Looking at Jiang Muwen, curiosity filled his eyes. “Why?”
“There’s no need for why,” Jiang Muwen imitated his posture, placing her hand on the ground nearby. She met his gaze but then hurriedly looked away, as if a secret she had long hidden had accidentally slipped out before him. “You still haven’t told me if you would bring your girlfriend to show me someday.”
Her voice grew softer, almost guilty. After asking, fear crept in—fear of what might happen if Wen Yichen really did find a girlfriend and appeared before her in ways she hadn’t expected.
“I don’t want any other girlfriend either.”

At last, Wen Yichen’s low, husky voice drifted into her ear. Though relaxed in tone, it held a trace of lingering affection, and within that affection lay a firm resolve.
Jiang Muwen’s heart trembled. She instinctively turned her head, meeting Wen Yichen’s beautiful eyes. It was as if the moonlight and stars had settled within them, casting mottled glimmers. His eyes, half-smiling, half-serious, held a touch of indulgence.
Jiang Muwen’s expression suddenly grew serious. Was that what he meant?
They said no more. The quiet air was filled only with their steady breathing and the resolute pounding of their hearts.
Wen Yichen looked at Jiang Muwen, his gaze slowly descending until it rested on her lips.
Time seemed to freeze in that moment. Jiang Muwen watched as Wen Yichen gradually leaned toward her.
Closer and closer, the distance between them shrinking by inches.
The May evening was warm, and the breeze carried an unseasonal heat and a hint of tender intimacy.
His breath brushed ever nearer, the even rhythm growing rapid. Jiang Muwen seemed to understand his intention. She watched the boy before her approach nervously, her small hands fidgeting against the wooden floor beside her.
In the next instant, warmth spread from his fingertips—tentative at first, as if testing the waters. When she twitched slightly, the warmth enveloped her hand more fully as his hand covered hers.
His warm breath brushed her cheek, the mingling of breaths leaving Jiang Muwen momentarily flustered. She instinctively tried to pull her hand away from his, but with a gentle squeeze, his hand held hers tighter still.
