Bai Xu seemed to sense Wen Yichen’s intense gaze. He stared at Wen Yichen for a moment before belatedly realizing, “I’m asking about you and classmate Xiao Jiang.”

In response to Bai Xu’s question, Wen Yichen didn’t seem very willing to answer. He set the game controller aside on the sofa, then straightened up, picked up a can of cola from the table, and took a sip.

Seeing Wen Yichen remain silent, Bai Xu seized the opportunity to ask again, “Did you kiss?”

“Pft!”

That single question nearly made Wen Yichen choke. He put down the cola, grabbed a tissue, wiped the corner of his mouth where the cola had splashed, then cleaned the can as well.

Bai Xu naturally knew about Wen Yichen’s feelings for Jiang Muwen, but since Wen Yichen was holding back, Bai Xu could only anxiously wait on the sidelines.

He had expected Wen Yichen to answer after wiping off the cola, but surprisingly, Wen Yichen picked the unfinished drink back up, ready to continue drinking.

“Don’t drink that,” Bai Xu reached out to take the cola from Wen Yichen’s hand. “Cola kills sperm.”

Wen Yichen swallowed the cola in his mouth, then, following Bai Xu’s suggestion, placed the can on the coffee table in front of the sofa. The next moment, he grabbed the game controller set aside, and as if handing over something important, passed it into Bai Xu’s hands. Then he solemnly patted him on the shoulder. “Take your time playing. I’m not joining you.”

Wen Yichen looked at Bai Xu with a faint trace of disdain between the lines.

“So, did you actually kiss or not?” Bai Xu wouldn’t give up, even as Wen Yichen stood up. He tilted his head and asked again.

After speaking, Wen Yichen paused, then quietly said, “Not today.”

As he spoke, Wen Yichen walked to the door and placed his large hand on the handle, pausing once more. “And keep this a secret.”

Sometimes, Wen Yichen only confided in Bai Xu about certain matters. He hadn’t told Bai Xu whether he had kissed the girl or not, but from his answer just now, Bai Xu’s face broke into an indescribable smile. “Alright then, Brother Chen. Good night.”

When Jiang Muwen returned to her room, Gu Nianxi was still awake. She had just sat down, tapped a few times on her phone screen, then stood and put on a light jacket.

“Are you going out?” Jiang Muwen asked Gu Nianxi instinctively.

“Yeah,” Gu Nianxi zipped up her jacket lightly and walked briskly to the door. “Yin Lize invited me to hang out downstairs.”

“You should sleep first. Don’t wait for me to come back,” Jiang Muwen said softly, gently opening the door and then stepping out sideways.

The door closed quietly, so softly that Jiang Muwen couldn’t help but feel as if Gu Nianxi was sneaking out to do something secretive.

Gu Nianxi was gone for a long time. By the time Jiang Muwen lay down to sleep, she still hadn’t returned. Before falling asleep, Jiang Muwen thoughtfully left a bedside lamp on for Gu Nianxi. Bathed in the warm yellow light, she slowly drifted into sleep.

Perhaps it was the old saying, “daytime thoughts become nighttime dreams,” for Jiang Muwen even dreamed of sitting outdoors with Wen Yichen in a quiet, deserted place. The peaceful night surrounded them; he sat beside her and slowly leaned closer. The surroundings were silent, with no other boys’ voices, only the gradually quickening sound of breathing.

The two drew nearer to each other until, at the moment their lips touched, a sudden, piercing noise in Jiang Muwen’s mind snapped her abruptly back to reality.

Her body trembled; she woke groggily and reached out to turn off the alarm on her phone.

Outside the window, darkness still stretched endlessly, the night seemingly without end.

The bedside lamp she had left on was turned off at some unknown time. Drowsily, Jiang Muwen glanced sideways. Gu Nianxi was sound asleep, seemingly having forgotten all about watching the sunrise.

“小希,” Jiang Muwen whispered, leaning over the bed and instinctively shaking Gu Nianxi, trying to rouse her.

“Mm,” Gu Nianxi murmured, still deeply asleep, not even opening her eyes.

“Get up soon. We’re going to watch the sunrise,” Jiang Muwen’s voice was soft and sweet, like a little kitten startled awake midway through sleep, stretching out her pink paws and giving a sleepy yawn.

“No,” Gu Nianxi pulled the covers closer, rolled over, and said, “You go ahead first. I’ll come in a bit.”

Hearing this, Jiang Muwen obediently responded with an “Okay,” naively thinking Gu Nianxi would really come shortly. After she finished getting ready, she carried her heavy sleepiness and headed downstairs.

Following her memory, Jiang Muwen went to the spot from last night. She lazily slid open the sliding door, expecting all the boys to be there, but found only Wen Yichen sitting alone.

Hearing the door, he instinctively turned his head. At the sight of Jiang Muwen, a handsome smile spread across his clean-cut face. “Morning.”

His voice was hoarse, as if he had just gotten up but his vocal cords hadn’t fully awakened.

“Morning,” Jiang Muwen replied in a soft, sweet voice and sat down beside Wen Yichen just like yesterday. “Where are the other guys?”

Jiang Muwen was very tired, and her voice still carried a lingering nasal tone, soft and drowsy. Wen Yichen was quite awakened by her sound. “They’re sleeping.”

He smiled helplessly. The boys had planned to stay awake until after four to watch the sunrise but had all fallen asleep before then.

The night still lingered, but finally, a faint light began to seep through the clouds, slowly spreading around.

Jiang Muwen sat quietly, her sleep deprivation making her drowsy. She turned her face. Wen Yichen’s head was tilted slightly back, gazing at the sky. To Jiang Muwen, the scene was breathtakingly beautiful—the boy and the sky merged perfectly, like a painting by a divine hand that traced a smooth, gentle line outlining the boy’s delicate profile.

Reluctantly, Jiang Muwen withdrew her gaze and looked up at the slowly brightening sky.

“Jiang Muwen,” Wen Yichen’s voice fell softly into her ear after a moment.

“Hmm?”

“Do you want to come closer?” Wen Yichen asked tentatively, then raised his hand to pat his own shoulder. Watching Jiang Muwen’s body occasionally lurch forward in her sleepy state, he worried she might accidentally tumble into the water at any careless moment.
