Chapter 121: Professional Experience (Second Update)
"Otherwise?" Gu Nianxi asked, slightly stunned by Gu Niancun's question.
She wouldn't have done this favor for anyone else.
Gu Niancun stood by the door, pondering for a moment before uttering a single "Fine." Perhaps even he didn't realize how fascinating the shifting expressions in his eyes were during that pause, all of which were captured by Gu Nianxi.
They were siblings born of the same mother. Though there was a significant age gap, they shared a certain telepathic connection. Combined with a woman's natural intuition, Gu Nianxi looked at her brother with an indescribable smile. "Brother, were you thinking that since Xiao Wenwen is involved..."
Before she could finish, Gu Niancun interrupted, "No."
He said it, but only he knew what he was truly thinking. When Gu Nianxi said the name "Xiao Wenwen," his heart had skipped a beat. Even though she hadn't explicitly said anything, he felt as if she had hit the nail on the head. Perhaps the reason he agreed to his sister's request was indeed because of Jiang Muwen.
Seeing Gu Niancun's reaction, Gu Nianxi felt a ripple of panic. He had been so quick to deny it before she could even finish her sentence. "Brother, you don't actually like Jiang Muwen, do you?"
If her brother had someone he liked, it would be a good thing, but she secretly hoped Jiang Muwen would end up with Wen Yichen.
"What on earth is going through your head all day?" Gu Niancun shut down her speculation, reaching out to ruffle her hair. "How could I possibly like a kid the same age as you?"
Seeing Gu Nianxi remain silent, he added, "Door's closed. As it happens, there's a shoot at the studio on the top floor of the company the day after tomorrow. You can have them come help out."
The appointed day arrived, and the group of friends set off for the address Gu Nianxi had provided.
"Wen Yichen, I just looked it up. Do you think Gu Nianxi gave us the wrong address?" Jiang Muwen asked, an air of uncertainty lingering. She had checked the address the previous night, and the search result was Qianci Entertainment.
Qianci Entertainment was a prestigious entertainment firm. Many stars known across the country had emerged from there. If Gu Niancun was truly the president of this company...
Jiang Muwen stopped herself from thinking further; she couldn't wrap her head around it.
"Why would she give us the wrong address for her own company?" Wen Yichen countered calmly.
That made sense, but...
"But it's Qianci!" Jiang Muwen insisted. Gu Nianxi had mentioned her family owned a company, but Jiang Muwen had imagined thousands of possibilities, yet never once considered an entertainment agency.
"Hmm?" Wen Yichen didn't seem to grasp the point she was trying to make.
His low voice reached her, prompting Jiang Muwen to continue her daydreaming. "Do you think we'll see lots and lots of famous celebrities this week?"
"..."
"Well?" she asked again when he didn't reply.
"We should be able to see them," Wen Yichen said, not wanting to crush her beautiful fantasy, though he couldn't bear to let her stay deluded. "Their posters, that is."
Jiang Muwen: "..."
The moment they entered the building, they felt the busy, high-pressure atmosphere of Qianci. Gu Nianxi was sitting on a sofa in the lobby, and upon seeing them, she waved. Beside her stood a man in a suit wearing glasses; he looked refined but appeared quite anxious, checking his watch repeatedly.
After waiting for a while, the rest of the boys arrived.
"Jan, everyone is here," Gu Nianxi said, looking at the man in the suit before standing up.
"Oh, my ancestors! You're finally all here. You're five minutes late! Come with me quickly!" Jan said, hurrying forward.
Everything was different from what Jiang Muwen had expected. She jogged to keep up. The pace at Qianci was intense—so fast that she didn't know what Jan's role was, nor what she would be doing over the next seven days.
Jiang Muwen stopped with the group in front of the elevators. The next second, she saw Gu Niancun walking briskly toward another elevator. His strides were long, and a subordinate carrying documents trailed behind him. Gu Niancun adjusted his watch while speaking in a low, sharp voice. "Tell the person in charge at DR that if the next quarter's report looks like this, we are pulling our investment."
His voice was deep, devoid of any unnecessary words. As he passed them, he seemed to leave a trail of wind in his wake. Finally, he stopped at the elevator next to theirs. He didn't seem to have the time to notice the group of kids standing nearby. He held out his hand. "The proposal for the BJ company."
The subordinate immediately handed over the documents.
"Good morning, President Gu," Jan greeted reflexively.
Perhaps it was the man's overwhelming presence, or perhaps it was simply that no one else dared to speak, but after Jan's greeting, the air fell into a heavy silence.
Gu Niancun looked up, glanced at them briefly, and gave a detached grunt of acknowledgment before his gaze returned to the papers in his hand. He seemed incredibly busy—so busy that Jiang Muwen felt he was an entirely different person from the Gu Niancun she knew.
The elevator chimed, the doors slid open, and Gu Niancun stepped inside.
Seeing the elevator doors open, Jiang Muwen instinctively prepared to follow, but Jan grabbed her arm. "My dear, that's the president's private elevator. Don't just walk in there."
"S-sorry," Jiang Muwen laughed awkwardly and retreated to Wen Yichen's side.
When their elevator finally arrived, Jiang Muwen stepped inside. Perhaps it was because the pace at Qianci was truly too frantic; she found herself suddenly unaccustomed to the atmosphere. It felt stifling.
