Chapter 128: Gu Niancun Requests to Add You as a Friend (Part One)
The moment Jiang Muwen received the message, her phone nearly flew out of her hand. Her heart seemed to skip a beat, and it took a long while for her to regain her composure.
She stared intently at the screen for a long time, only then confirming that it was truly Wen Yichen.
She never expected that Wen Yichen would actually reach out to her.
Jiang Muwen’s fingers tapped lightly on the screen. She typed and deleted in the dialogue box repeatedly, only to eventually clear everything she had intended to say.
Her mind remained in a state of turmoil. As she gazed at her phone, her thoughts drifted far away. How did Wen Yichen know that the social media post was meant for him? And with what mindset had he sent her this message?
Jiang Muwen stared blankly at the phone screen as it flickered from bright to dark, a dazed smile slowly spreading across her face. If things were truly as she imagined, then perhaps Wen Yichen had feelings for her as well.
The distance between the two of them was truly close—so close that if either one of them took a slight step toward the other, they could hold hands or kiss each other’s cheeks.
Yet, neither dared to take that step. They were both cautiously testing the waters, as if afraid that moving forward even an inch would cause the other to retreat.
Seeing that Jiang Muwen had not replied for a long time, Wen Yichen sent another message: "It seems you really don't intend to look for me."
With this message from Wen Yichen, Jiang Muwen grew anxious. She immediately tapped on the screen: "No, I do!"
"Have you had dinner?" Wen Yichen asked.
Wen Yichen had proactively shifted the topic. The casual, understated greeting warmed Jiang Muwen’s heart. It wasn't for any other reason than the fact that she was truly famished; his question gave her the sudden, illusory feeling that he would prepare a table full of delicious food for her.
Jiang Muwen: "Not yet."
Wen Yichen: "What do you want to eat?"
Jiang Muwen: "I’ll just go home and have something simple."
After the message was sent, Wen Yichen did not reply instantly as he had before. A few seconds later, he sent an image.
The thumbnail was dim, but at a glance, it looked quite like the front door of her home. Wait—it didn't just look like it; it seemed to be her front door.
Jiang Muwen opened the image with confusion, only to be surprised to find a note with writing on it stuck to her door.
"Baby, your father and I are going to Y Island for a few days. Take good care of yourself, don't miss us."
In reality, the original message wasn't quite like that. There were many words on the paper that had been crossed out and rewritten, crossed out and rewritten again, but that didn't stop Jiang Muwen from deducing what her mother had originally scribbled.
Wen Nuan had first written, "You're on your own." Perhaps feeling that was too heartless, she crossed it out and changed it to, "If you have any trouble, ask Little Chenchen for help." She likely felt that was still inappropriate, eventually settling on "Take good care of yourself."
Not long after, Wen Yichen sent another message: "Is there anything to eat at your place?"
This question stumped Jiang Muwen. Perhaps her parents hadn't left her anything at all before they left; otherwise, the note wouldn't have been written that way.
Jiang Muwen: "Maybe."
Wen Yichen: "I see. Get some good rest when you get home, and go to bed early."
After Wen Yichen sent that, Jiang Muwen didn't think much of it. After getting off the car, she walked the night path alone.
The elevator slowly reached the eleventh floor. Jiang Muwen stepped out and reached into her bag for her keys.
Perhaps due to the rustling sound she made while searching for her keys, the hallway lights flickered on one after another.
Jiang Muwen strolled toward her front door. The light was dim, but she clearly saw an object in a plastic bag hanging there. By the look of it, it was a takeout order.
Did a delivery driver get the wrong address?
Jiang Muwen glanced at it with suspicion but didn't dwell on it. She pulled the note off the door and bent down to see what was inside the plastic bag.
She carefully lifted the bag. It had a heavy, substantial weight, and the container still held a trace of warmth, accompanied by an overflowing aroma. It was indeed takeout.
Did Wen Yichen order this? Jiang Muwen wondered, looking up at the tightly shut door next door. It had been so long—that couldn't be it, could it?
Driven by intense curiosity, Jiang Muwen peeked into the plastic bag again. To her surprise, she noticed a sticky note attached to the takeout container.
Jiang Muwen pulled the note off. It still retained some warmth. Under the dim light, she managed to make out the words.
It was from Wen Yichen. His cursive handwriting was elegant and pleasing to the eye. "No scallions, no cilantro, no onions added. The bibimbap you love was sold out, so I bought you my favorite instead. P.S. You've worked hard. I hope you'll eat it all with a grateful heart."
Looking at the note, Jiang Muwen couldn't help but burst into a laugh. As she read those lines, it felt as if Wen Yichen were standing right in front of her, wearing his icy expression while saying these things with complete seriousness.
She tightened the plastic bag, unlocked her door, and stepped inside, placing the takeout gently on the dining table. It seemed Wen Yichen always remembered her preferences—what she loved and what she didn't—keeping it all in his mind. Every time he bought her something, he never stepped on her landmines.
In her mind, he was like an animal keeper.
Although the analogy wasn't quite appropriate, his "feedings" always left her full and content.
After washing her hands, Jiang Muwen returned to the table. With a hint of anticipation, she opened the container and leaned in to sniff. A moment later, the fragrant scent of the rice wafted into her nose.
Her stomach let out an uncooperative growl. Jiang Muwen sat down obediently and picked up her spoon, but just as it sank into the rice, her phone vibrated on the table.
Her heart leaped with joy, thinking it was a message from Wen Yichen, so she immediately picked it up. However, the moment she held the phone, that joy vanished—it wasn't a message from Wen Yichen. No one had messaged her; it was a friend request.
She was puzzled, wondering who would want to add her, and tapped on the "New Friends" icon. The screen shifted, and as she looked at it, her heart involuntarily trembled.
"Gu Niancun requests to add you as a friend."
Jiang Muwen stared at the screen, momentarily stunned. How could Gu Niancun be adding her? How did he even get her contact information?
