Chapter 139: A Certain Resemblance as a Couple (Second Update)

The moment those words fell, Jiang Muwen’s face flushed hot. She knew perfectly well that she and Wen Yichen were not a couple, yet in everyone else’s eyes, they looked exactly like one.
Jiang Muwen glanced at the server, then at Wen Yichen sitting before her. She was just about to explain their relationship when she closed her mouth again. Truthfully, being mistaken for a couple felt rather nice.
“Good. We’ll have this set,” Wen Yichen said calmly.
“Sir, would you like to change the drinks?” the server asked.
“No need.”
The server jotted something down on her notepad. “Anything else?”
“No—”
“No scallions or cilantro,” the two of them said almost at the same time.
When Jiang Muwen heard Wen Yichen speak, she froze involuntarily. Her lips parted slightly as she stared blankly at him. He could eat cilantro and scallions, yet he had said it so naturally, as though he had been born incapable of tolerating either.
He knew all her preferences and every single thing she disliked. Without realizing it, he had even been influenced by her, gradually becoming more and more like her.
The server looked at the two customers before her, and a smile spread across her face. As she continued writing, she praised them, “You two are such a perfect match. The longer I look at you, the more you resemble a married couple.”
Jiang Muwen became even more embarrassed at the compliment. The tips of her ears reddened instinctively, and she lowered her eyes awkwardly, not knowing what to say.
“Thank you.”
Before Jiang Muwen could recover, Wen Yichen spoke first. As he did, a faint smile appeared on his face.
After the server left, neither of them said a word. The air sank into an indescribable silence, one that lasted until the food was served.
The server placed their dishes on the table, then brought over their drinks. The beverage came in a round cup with two straws stuck into it. Its cool, vivid colors faded gradually beneath the sunlight, creating a breathtakingly beautiful sight.

“All your dishes are here. When you’re finished, remember to call me, and I’ll bring you dessert.”
After saying that, the server turned and left. Jiang Muwen was just about to call her back when Wen Yichen interrupted her with a quiet, “Let’s start eating.”
“Isn’t she going to give us cups?” Jiang Muwen asked, looking at the large drink.
“That’s how the drink in the couples’ set comes.” Wen Yichen replied naturally. The next moment, he thoughtfully placed the utensils in front of her. “Eat up. We’ve been playing together since we were children. What haven’t we shared?”
His words made perfect sense. After obediently answering, “Oh,” Jiang Muwen placed her small hand around the straw and leaned forward instinctively, preparing to take a sip.
Unexpectedly, just as she leaned in, Wen Yichen leaned forward too.
Thump.
Their foreheads collided, and Jiang Muwen froze. She instinctively raised her eyes, only to meet Wen Yichen’s clear gaze. He looked straight at her without the slightest attempt to avoid her eyes.
The sudden closeness left them both stunned. They were so near that Jiang Muwen could see the tiny, pale hairs on Wen Yichen’s face.
It was as though the air had solidified in that instant. Jiang Muwen stared at Wen Yichen and could even hear her own heart pounding wildly. At the same time, the boy before her slowly flushed. His gaze drifted downward, eventually settling on her lips, which were closed around the straw.
Heaven only knew where he had found the courage. After a moment, the hand holding the straw slowly loosened. Bit by bit, it moved toward Jiang Muwen.
His fingertips lightly touched hers, advancing inch by inch as though testing the waters. A moment later, his large hand had completely covered the small hand holding the straw.
The warmth of his palm slowly enveloped the back of Jiang Muwen’s cool hand. His touch was cautious, yet filled with reluctance to let go.
The instant she felt that warmth, the little deer in Jiang Muwen’s chest seemed to lose its way and began to crash wildly against her ribs. The next second, her face crimson, she instinctively pulled her hand away.
Yet the moment she did, regret followed. She stared blankly at Wen Yichen, as if she still had not regained her senses. It was so rare for him to take the initiative, and she had actually—actually—fled.
Jiang Muwen awkwardly averted her gaze, silently cursing herself. No wonder she had liked him for so long yet still could not be with him. If only she had been a little more proactive, perhaps they would have gotten together long ago. They might even have kissed several times by now.

“I’m sorry.”
Just as Jiang Muwen was thinking this, Wen Yichen spoke. His voice was slightly hoarse, and he lowered his eyes afterward. The sight tugged painfully at her heart.
“It’s all right. You don’t have to apologize.” Jiang Muwen straightened her back and picked up her utensils. Not wanting Wen Yichen to dwell on it, she forced a smile and added, “We’ve been playing together for so many years. We’ve bumped heads and touched hands countless times.”
When she finished, the air once again fell into silence.
Wait.
Jiang Muwen froze. For one brief moment, even she could not tell what her reassurance truly meant. In the past, the feelings between them had been nothing more than simple friendship. But now, they seemed to have become something far more complicated. Would Wen Yichen think that she was saying they were merely ordinary friends, and nothing more?
With that thought, Jiang Muwen hurriedly added, “There’ll be plenty more situations like this in the future, too.”
The moment she finished speaking, her scalp went numb.
Oh no. That sounded completely different now. Not only that, but it felt as though she were making things worse the more she tried to explain.
Seeing her flustered expression, Wen Yichen suddenly found it difficult not to laugh. He let out a soft chuckle, then picked up his utensils. “Eat up. This tastes best while it’s hot.”
By the time they had nearly finished their meal, the dessert arrived as well. When Jiang Muwen spotted the ice cream, she eagerly dug out a spoonful. Its icy coolness lingered on the tip of her tongue before slowly melting away, leaving behind a rich sweetness.
“So delicious.” As she spoke, Jiang Muwen scooped up another spoonful.
The next moment, she held the spoonful of ice cream to Wen Yichen’s lips. “Try it.”
The ice cream lightly touched Wen Yichen’s lips, leaving a cool sensation against them. His face instinctively tilted backward a little as he lowered his eyes to look at the ice cream resting in the spoon.
“Eat it. It’ll melt if you wait too long.” Jiang Muwen nudged the spoon a little closer to him.
