After a brief silence filled the air, Mu Wen Jiang took the initiative to shake her hand, pretending she was not Mu Wen Jiang. As she shook her hand, she used her other hand to hold onto her headpiece, as if afraid it might slip off and reveal her true face to Man Xia.

Man Xia’s gaze seemed never to leave Mu Wen Jiang. She stared directly at the girl before her, her bright eyes tinged with suspicion. “Are you really not Mu Wen Jiang?”

When Man Xia spoke, it was as if she was certain that the person hiding under the headpiece was indeed Mu Wen Jiang. As she spoke, she involuntarily raised her hand, slowly reaching toward Mu Wen Jiang’s headpiece, as if intending to remove it.

Seeing Man Xia’s hand almost touch her headpiece, Mu Wen Jiang was about to raise her hand to stop her, but suddenly a force tugged her sideways at the wrist—it was Yi Chen Wen. Following that force, she obediently hid behind Yi Chen Wen. She raised her hand to adjust the headpiece that had just been knocked askew. The next moment, Yi Chen Wen’s voice sounded softly in her ear, “I told you, she’s not.”

The young man’s voice was somewhat stiff, clearly displeased with Man Xia’s actions.

Man Xia seemed startled by Yi Chen Wen’s reaction. After a moment of hesitation, she glanced at Yi Chen Wen, then at the girl hiding behind him. “Sorry, I was being presumptuous.”

Though Man Xia said this, she still couldn’t help but sneak a few more glances at Mu Wen Jiang. “By the way, where is that Mu Wen Jiang?”

Before Yi Chen Wen could reply, Yao Zhou muttered to herself, “She probably ran off and is hiding, embarrassed after coming in last.”

A look of disdain and a sneer played across Yao Zhou’s face. Whether intentional or not, she hadn’t finished her sentence before Man Xia gave her sleeve a sharp tug, signaling her to keep quiet.

Mu Wen Jiang heard all this, of course, and so did Yi Chen Wen. She could clearly feel the hand holding her wrist tighten slightly. Was Yi Chen Wen upset?

“Do you need something from me?” Yi Chen Wen finally asked coolly, clearly not wanting to engage in unnecessary conversation with Man Xia.

No sooner had he spoken than Man Xia immediately answered, “Yes.”

As she spoke, she reached into the pocket of her school uniform.

Curious, Mu Wen Jiang leaned forward to see what Man Xia was pulling out. The next second, a ticket appeared before her eyes.

“I heard you really like the band Sean. I happen to have two tickets to their concert, and it’s the show the day before your birthday. Want to go together?” Man Xia said, handing over the tickets.

Then, as if remembering something, she added, “Though not front row, the seats should be quite close. I wonder if you’d like to go with me.”

Sean is a boy band that debuted just a couple of years ago, quickly becoming the dream crush of countless young girls. Their concert tickets are notoriously hard to come by.

“How did you know I like Sean?” Yi Chen Wen didn’t take the ticket from Man Xia. He merely glanced at the paper, showing no hint of excitement in his eyes.

Seeing Yi Chen Wen’s reaction, Man Xia was momentarily stunned. His demeanor hardly matched that of a fan. But it shouldn’t be—she had taken great pains to find out, observed for a long time, and only recently learned from others that Yi Chen Wen liked Sean.

After Yi Chen Wen spoke, Man Xia gradually came back to herself, awkwardly forcing a smile. “I just happened to overhear it. Plus, a friend of my mother’s had two tickets.”

“This rare chance, you really don’t want to go?” Man Xia asked again, seeing that Yi Chen Wen remained unmoved.

But the only reply was Yi Chen Wen’s impassive face.

“The concert is just after the midterm exams, a good way to relax,” Man Xia persisted.

At that moment, her expression was strikingly like a salesperson from the company next door to the school.

Mu Wen Jiang glanced between Man Xia and the concert ticket in her hand. She didn’t know what Yi Chen Wen thought upon seeing the ticket, but she herself felt a mixture of envy and a bittersweet ache. She liked Sean too, but tickets were so hard to get. She could only keep sharing official Weibo giveaways, hoping for a lucky break.

“So?” Yi Chen Wen asked indifferently. Despite Man Xia’s words, he remained unmoved, steadfast as an immovable mountain.

Anyone could tell that a straightforward, no-nonsense guy like Yi Chen Wen wouldn’t be enamored with a boy band popular among teenage girls.

He only learned about Sean because Mu Wen Jiang liked them. He listened to their songs, followed their social media updates when he had time, and shared them with Mu Wen Jiang. He did all this just to have more topics in common with her.

“This ticket is really hard to get,” Man Xia muttered under her breath, seeing no sign of Yi Chen Wen softening.

“Since it’s so hard to get, don’t waste it. You can go with Yao Zhou,” Yi Chen Wen said, ignoring Man Xia’s reaction. He grabbed Mu Wen Jiang’s hand and led her away from the two girls.

After walking a while, Mu Wen Jiang couldn’t help but speak softly through the headpiece, her voice faint and uncertain as it reached Yi Chen Wen’s ear. “Yi Chen, that really is a ticket to the Sean concert…”

Apparently, Yi Chen Wen hadn’t caught what she said. After she finished, he slowly stopped walking and then raised his hand to remove the headpiece from her head. “What did you say just now?”

Mu Wen Jiang looked at Yi Chen Wen. He seemed genuinely not to have heard clearly, not pretending to ask again.

She lifted her eyes to his face and repeated her words. Her vision had felt blurry inside the bear-head costume.

The girl’s expression of disbelief made Yi Chen Wen smile slightly. Seeing the messy tufts of hair atop her head, he instinctively raised his hand and smoothed them down. “There’s no way it’s fake.”
