Chapter 155: The Wall Slam (Second Update)
Wen Yichen claimed he just wanted to get a bite to eat, but in reality, he was simply looking for a place to escape the bustling crowd outside, somewhere quiet where he could sit down for a while.
However, the moment he pushed open the door of the fast-food restaurant, Wen Yichen was dumbfounded. Even though it was not mealtime, the restaurant was packed. As soon as he entered, he instantly became the center of attention. After lingering on him and Jiang Muwen for a moment, the customers' faces all broke into subtle, indescribable smiles. He could even hear patrons at nearby tables whispering about how adorable they looked.
Although autumn had already arrived and the restaurant had no heating turned on, Wen Yichen felt an inexplicable wave of heat rise up his cheeks. He slowly loosened his grip on Jiang Muwen's hand and glanced around. "There's an empty seat over there. Go sit down first, I'll go order."
Only after Wen Yichen released her hand did Jiang Muwen suddenly feel a lingering coolness in her palm. He had held her hand the entire way here; she had no idea what was going through his mind, but throughout the walk, her heart had genuinely fluttered like a trapped fawn. For a full five minutes, the little deer in her chest had nearly beaten itself to death, and her palms were slick with nervous sweat.
Watching the boy's back as he walked toward the queue, Jiang Muwen stood there in a daze before slowly making her way to the empty seat nearby.
Wen Yichen stood obediently at the end of the line. Having known and played with him for so many years, Jiang Muwen only just realized how dazzling this boy appeared amidst a crowd. Even without that arrow headband perched on his head, he was still remarkably eye-catching, as if everything around him slowly faded into the background, losing its original color the moment he stood there.
Her gaze drifted upward, landing squarely on the red arrow atop his head. Coupled with his well-behaved, obedient posture, he exuded an indescribable cuteness.
The next second, acting on a sudden impulse, Jiang Muwen took out her phone and quietly snapped a picture of Wen Yichen.
Looking at the photo, a goofy smile crept onto her face—one she hadn't even noticed herself. At that moment, she didn't want to keep the picture a secret; she wanted to share it with the world, feeling like she had discovered an incredible treasure and desperately wanted to show it off. Yet, at the same time, she didn't want too many acquaintances to recognize them, especially not the boy currently standing in line to order.
After letting this contradictory thought linger in her mind for a moment, Jiang Muwen made a decision: she would post the photo on Weibo. Besides, none of the followers on her "A Plum Blossom" account had ever seen her in person, and with only a back view, surely no one would recognize him, right?
With that thought, Jiang Muwen uploaded the picture, pairing it with a "shush" emoji.
Expecting very few likes or comments from her followers, she was surprised to see the post accumulate several likes almost immediately.
Not long after, a few comments began to trickle in:
"Camel-Seeking Grass: Is this your childhood sweet-heart?"
"Nannan's Difficult Mom: Oh my god, that red arrow is just too cute! Did this childhood sweetheart grow up eating cuteness for breakfast?"
"Bao A-jiang: Good lord, why do I find even a back view so ridiculously good-looking?"
Comments like these popped up one after another before Jiang Muwen's eyes. As she glanced back and forth between Wen Yichen at the counter and the comments on her phone, an affectionate, maternal smile bloomed across her face. This feeling genuinely brought her more joy than receiving compliments herself.
Just as Jiang Muwen was about to put her phone down, it buzzed again with a new notification. It was a comment from Gu Nianxi, who hadn't written any words, but simply sent a string of sideways-glancing, smirking emojis. Seeing that made the smile on Jiang Muwen's face even more unrestrained.
"What are you smiling at?"
The next instant, Wen Yichen's voice suddenly broke into Jiang Muwen's ear, causing her to jump slightly. Guiltily, she reined in her smile and shook her head.
"Hmm?" Wen Yichen refused to let it go. He placed the drinks and food on the table and dropped heavily into the seat opposite her.
Jiang Muwen instinctively looked up at him, catching sight of the red arrow still perched on his head. Remembering the comments from her followers, another giggle slipped out.
Wen Yichen naturally noticed her abnormal expression. Frowning, his eyes filled with curiosity, he asked, "What on earth are you smiling at?"
Hearing this, Jiang Muwen abruptly caught herself, purposely averting her gaze. "Nothing! I wasn't smiling!"
Soon, Jiang Muwen and Wen Yichen finished their meal. As soon as the two of them returned to the entrance of the stadium, they spotted Wen Yixin and his girlfriend waiting for them. Fans outside were already beginning to file in one after another. The moment Wen Yixin caught sight of the two ancestors, he couldn't help urging them impatiently, "Hey, ancestors, hurry up! Everyone's already going inside!"
However, Wen Yixin's urging seemed to have no effect at all. Watching the two of them continue to stroll leisurely—from waiting in line outside to entering the arena—they never seemed to be in a rush. Standing off to the side, Wen Yixin could only grow anxious on their behalf. These two were truly completely unhurried about everything, whether it was entering a concert or advancing their own relationship.
The more he thought about it, the more impatient Wen Yixin felt. Even he had managed to find a girlfriend, yet his younger brother and his childhood friend hadn't made a single bit of progress!
The crowd was dense as they entered. Seeing Wen Yichen and Jiang Muwen walking slowly along the edge, Wen Yixin suddenly hatched a bold idea. Plotting his move, he feigned carelessness and drifted closer to Wen Yichen.
At that moment, Wen Yichen was walking slightly behind and to the side of Jiang Muwen, almost as if shielding her, occasionally lowering his gaze to check on the girl in front of him.
The next second, Wen Yixin gave Wen Yichen a sharp shove. The sudden impact threw Wen Yichen off balance, and he instinctively stumbled forward toward Jiang Muwen by a couple of steps.
Wen Yixin's shove was remarkably heavy, and Wen Yichen had been entirely unprepared. Stumbling forward, he watched in horror as he inadvertently cornered Jiang Muwen against the wall beside them.
Caught off guard by the sudden force, Jiang Muwen didn't have time to react either. After stumbling and crashing against the wall, Wen Yichen lunged forward right behind her. The entire sequence of events flowed seamlessly; within a mere two seconds, Jiang Muwen found herself once again pinned between the wall and Wen Yichen's body.
The boy's elbows braced against the wall, leaving only a few centimeters of space between their faces.
Before Jiang Muwen could recover her wits, Wen Yichen's warm breath washed over her cheeks. A light, tingling sensation rippled through her, like an electric current passing through her entire body. The familiar scene instantly reminded her of that other time last year, when they had left the exhibition and he had pinned her against the wall just like this.
The girl looked up at the boy, and the boy looked right back at her. She hadn't collected her thoughts yet, and neither had he. However, right at that moment, another force suddenly struck Wen Yichen from behind, pushing his body forward once more.
The next second, a soft, light kiss landed squarely on the girl's cheek.
