The boy hugged a pillow, instinctively shifting his body slightly toward Jiang Muwen, a trace of curiosity blossoming in his clear eyes.

“I Wen Yixin asked me to come give you a birthday surprise,” Jiang Muwen said softly, her gaze drifting away as if she were a child who had just been caught doing something wrong.

Wen Yichen couldn’t help but chuckle at Jiang Muwen’s words. Opening his bedroom door early in the morning to find her there was indeed quite a surprise.

He let out a light laugh, looking steadily at the girl before him with calm eyes that betrayed no emotion.

Sensing a pair of eyes fixed on her, Jiang Muwen slowly turned her head after a moment. Their eyes met, and for a brief instant, Jiang Muwen was caught off guard, unable to read the boy’s thoughts. “What’s wrong with you?” she asked.

Was he angry?

“That I entered your room without permission was my fault,” Jiang Muwen admitted.

After saying this, Wen Yichen’s gaze began to shift subtly. He looked at the girl before him with a hint of amusement, a faint, elusive smile playing in his eyes, making Jiang Muwen blush slightly.

Her mouth parted as she was about to speak, but Wen Yichen suddenly leaned closer. His movement was light, like a dragonfly skimming the water, yet it sent ripples fluttering in Jiang Muwen’s heart.

The boy’s hand lazily propped on the bed, his body tilting slightly, lips curving into a faint, enigmatic smile. The warm breath brushed gently against Jiang Muwen’s face, leaving her mind utterly blank.

“I suddenly realized,” Wen Yichen drawled, dragging out the last syllable in a low, husky voice tinged with laziness, teasing Jiang Muwen’s heart with each word.

He suddenly noticed how adorably flushed and shy Jiang Muwen looked.

“What?” she asked, curious.

Wen Yichen parted his lips, intending to say the words but then swallowed them back. Instead, he raised his hand and instinctively cupped her face, his fingers gently holding her palm-sized cheeks. His tone bore a hint of interrogation mixed with playful mischief. “You seem awfully free.”

Jiang Muwen was momentarily speechless under Wen Yichen’s gaze. She blinked at him, the boy’s delicate features framed by eyes as deep as the starry sea, making her blush and heart race uncontrollably. Whether he noticed it or not, Jiang Muwen’s cheeks were unmistakably flushed, her face warm enough to make one want to bite it.

Seeing her silence, Wen Yichen continued, “You finished all those exercise books I bought you last year, right? Want me to get you a few more sets of the ‘Five Three’ series?”

As he spoke, a dangerous curve tugged at the corners of his mouth. Watching the girl turn red from his teasing filled him with an inexplicable joy.

He seemed to enjoy teasing her more and more.

Jiang Muwen’s lips puckered under Wen Yichen’s touch. His gaze then shifted to her mouth, and memories of past moments flooded his mind—the soft, warm feeling just at the lips.

Yet all those stolen kisses while sleeping, the drunken kisses—only Wen Yichen seemed to remember them; the girl before him showed no sign of recollection.

Just then, a knock abruptly broke the silence. Wen Yixin’s voice followed, reaching their ears. “Xiao Wenwen, have you finished your homework, Wen Yichen?”

Wen Yixin had intended to tell Jiang Muwen that Wen Yichen was missing, but upon opening the door and seeing him sitting by the bed, teasing the girl, he froze. “There you are.”

Caught completely off guard, the two felt like secret lovers caught in the act.

Wen Yichen instinctively released her face and obediently hugged his pillow. An awkward silence fell.

After a long pause, Wen Yixin spoke softly, “Well, carry on then.”

With that, the older brother tactfully closed the bedroom door behind him. The soft click echoed in the room before Wen Yixin’s voice came again, muffled and cautious, “Want me to lock the door for you?”

Pressing his ear to the door with a mischievous grin, Wen Yixin tried to listen, but whether due to good soundproofing or their silence, nothing could be heard.

Suddenly, the door swung open, catching Wen Yixin completely unprepared. He stumbled forward a few steps.

“What are you doing?” Wen Yichen’s voice was low and calm as he looked at his brother without a hint of emotion.

Wen Yixin gave an awkward smile, resting a hand on his waist. “My back hurt all of a sudden, so I leaned on the door for a bit. You two keep playing—I’m heading back to my room.”

He turned and staggered toward his room. Once Wen Yixin was gone, Wen Yichen closed the door and walked to the bed.

Frowning at the scattered decorations around the room, Wen Yichen slowly moved to the window and tore down the ornaments Jiang Muwen had painstakingly put up.

Such clutter wasn’t his style—he preferred a clean, tidy space.

Patiently, the boy folded the decorative ribbons and placed the ornaments into a nearby box.

“Don’t you like how I decorated?” Jiang Muwen asked cautiously, watching Wen Yichen busy himself.

He paused briefly, then replied indifferently, “I prefer the room to be clean.”

“I was trying to surprise you,” Jiang Muwen murmured, glancing at Wen Yichen and then at her empty hands. “Happy birthday. Sorry I didn’t bring you a gift today and ended up causing trouble.”

Her voice was soft. Wen Yichen’s gaze inevitably lingered on her for a moment before a small smile curved his lips. “You coming here is the best gift I could ask for.”
