Myrtle Tang took Wen Yichen’s face in both hands and kneaded it indiscriminately, leaving him no chance to stop her.

Ding.

The elevator doors slowly slid open. A moment later, the person who appeared before Myrtle Tang and Wen Yichen was a woman in her forties or fifties. She lived right next door, and the instant she saw the two of them, she could not help but start in surprise.

She had watched those two children grow up with her own eyes, and never would she have imagined that they would be capable of such an intimate gesture.

Four eyes met, and the atmosphere instantly sank into awkwardness.

“Hello, Auntie.”
“Ah, hello, Auntie.”

After greeting her, the two children exchanged wry smiles. Neither of them had expected to run into their neighbor in a place like this, at a time like this.

“You’re back from school?” the woman said with a smile, offering a polite greeting.

Wen Yichen gave a faint hum. “We just got back from the spring outing.”

As he spoke, he carried Myrtle Tang out of the elevator hall. “We’re going home now. Goodbye, Auntie.”

With that, Wen Yichen carried Myrtle Tang all the way to her front door. The air was somewhat awkward. After a moment, he finally spoke to break the silence.

“Myrtle Tang, your key.”

At his words, Myrtle Tang gave a soft, obedient hum, then fished the key out of her pocket and handed it to him.

The next moment, he opened the door and carried the girl inside, all the way to the bedroom. There he set her down carefully on the bed.

“When will Uncle and Auntie be back?”

It was only a casual question, yet Myrtle Tang misunderstood it. At once, a faint blush colored her cheeks, and an unnatural smile appeared on her face.

“You want to keep me company?”

The words themselves were not strange, but seeing Myrtle Tang in this state, Wen Yichen could not help but read a little more into them, politely. Then his own cheeks slowly began to flush a lovely red.

Myrtle Tang had not sobered up at all. Earlier she had only seemed so well-behaved because other people were around. Now that the two of them were alone in the house, alcohol lent her a great deal of courage. In the next instant, she did something she would never normally have dared to do.

She lifted both hands, then naturally wrapped them around Wen Yichen’s neck. The two of them suddenly drew close, so close that their breathing began to mingle.

Myrtle Tang slowly lowered her eyes. Her gaze drifted to Wen Yichen’s lips, red and soft. For some reason, after drinking, she wanted to be near him even more than usual, wanted even more to touch him, even more to kiss him.

Wen Yichen lowered his eyes, looking carefully at Myrtle Tang. At that moment he was taut with tension, every inch of him humming with swiftly surging blood. He feared that in the next second, the string stretched tight inside him would snap.

Who knew where this girl had learned such tactics. Those restless fingertips were tracing circles now and then at the nape of his neck, ceaselessly testing the edge of his control.

Seeing how tense he was, Myrtle Tang could not help but give a soft laugh. Warm breath brushed over Wen Yichen’s cheek as she said in a low, husky voice, her eyes curved with amusement, “Wen Yichen, we look like we’re sneaking around behind people’s backs.”

Wen Yichen was utterly unprepared for her to say something like that. The instant the words fell, the last taut thread in his mind snapped completely. Heat crept over his cheeks, his heartbeat quickened, and even his body began to undergo a subtle, dangerous change.

Myrtle Tang had truly tormented Wen Yichen enough today. One push after another, she was challenging his physical limits.

“Wen Yichen, there seem to be a lot of couples in our class lately,” Myrtle Tang murmured again. To Wen Yichen, it sounded like a blatant hint. “Should we try—”

Before Myrtle Tang could finish, Wen Yichen hurriedly cut her off.

“Quickly—”

Just as Wen Yichen was about to tell Myrtle Tang to lie down and go to sleep, she suddenly made a surprise attack. Her soft lips brushed lightly against the corner of his mouth, fleeting as a dragonfly skimming water, yet it stirred a fresh wave of turbulence in his heart.

Wen Yichen seized the last of his remaining reason and immediately rose from the bed. Turning away with a flushed face, he said, “I’m going back first. Sleep properly.”

“When you’ve thought it through, call me,” Myrtle Tang said, grinning foolishly as she made a phone-call gesture with her hand.

Wen Yichen glanced back at her and gave a casual hum. Before leaving, he thoughtfully closed the bedroom door for her.

Myrtle Tang did not know when she had fallen asleep. When she woke, the sky outside was already pitch-black, and her head ached faintly. She instinctively reached out and rubbed her temples.

Still lying in bed, she was a little dazed. Her memories remained stuck on the afternoon, when everyone had been playing Truth or Dare together. She only remembered drinking a great, great deal, and then—then there was nothing after that.

Heaven knew what she had actually done. The feeling was unsettling, as though she were walking on cotton, light and unsteady, as if one careless step might send her plunging at once.

She subconsciously pulled another hand from under the blanket and landed it on her phone. The brightness of the screen made her squint. It was already after midnight.

Not long after she put the phone back down, it began to vibrate.

Who would be calling at this hour?

Curious, she picked it up again, and the three words on the screen made her heart give a small jolt.

It was Wen Yichen.

She answered, giving a soft hello.

“Did I disturb your sleep?” His voice on the other end was low, yet exceptionally pleasant.

“No. I just woke up.”

“Sober now?” Wen Yichen asked again.

Everything around her was quiet. Listening to his voice gave Myrtle Tang an inexplicable sense of peace.

At that, she gave a small hum.

“This afternoon, what you said—I’ve thought it through. We—”

“What did I say?” Myrtle Tang’s heart tightened. Before Wen Yichen could finish, she interrupted him.

The other end fell silent.

After a moment, Wen Yichen asked, “You really can’t remember a single thing you said after getting drunk?”

Myrtle Tang held the phone, momentarily at a loss. “I—I—”

“Do you want me to tell you what you said to me this afternoon?”

He asked it so mildly that it only startled Myrtle Tang further. She instinctively thought she must have said something terribly unseemly. The moment Wen Yichen finished speaking, she blurted out, “I was drunk. I was just talking nonsense. Please don’t take it seriously.”
