Chapter Ninety-Nine: Close Your Eyes
Wen Yichen stared blankly at Jiang Muwen. How was this any different from him wearing women’s clothes all by himself?
"Wen Yichen," Jiang Muwen pleaded again.
That baby-soft voice fell into his ears, and then delivered a heavy blow straight to his heart.
"Fine then." Helplessly, Wen Yichen picked up the long dress that had been packed inside the bag.
"Next time, we won’t wear this one," Jiang Muwen added when she saw him lift the dress.
At that, Wen Yichen could not help but pause. "You still want a next time?"
"There isn’t one, there isn’t one."
"I’m changing now." Wen Yichen put the dress on the desk, then his gaze fell on the curtains by the window. He did not want to go change in the restroom, only to have to strut all the way back in women’s clothes.
"Bai Xu, shut the door and draw the curtains." Right now there were only the three of them left in the classroom. As long as the door was locked, no one else would see him changing.
"Got it!" Bai Xu said as he jogged over to the door, shut it, and then drew the curtains. In an instant, the classroom grew much dimmer.
Wen Yichen cleared his throat. He picked up the dress from the desk, then said awkwardly, "Jiang Muwen, turn around."
When Jiang Muwen obediently turned her back, Wen Yichen added, "Close your eyes."
"Okay." Jiang Muwen dutifully shut her eyes.
"Cover them too."
"Huh?" Jiang Muwen did not understand. She was already facing away from him, and she had already closed her eyes.
"Quickly."
Left with no choice, Jiang Muwen raised her hands and covered her eyes. Who knew how shy this boy could be, delaying even while changing clothes.
Just as Wen Yichen was about to take off his school uniform, Bai Xu spoke again. As he talked, he walked to the door. "Brother Chen, I’ll go borrow some makeup. You change first."
A moment later, the sound of the door closing reached Jiang Muwen’s ears. Eyes shut, she saw nothing but darkness, and she had no idea how Wen Yichen was doing. The classroom was quiet; beside her ears was only the faint rustling of clothes. The sound was not loud, but she could hear it clearly, and she even found herself imagining what he might look like while changing.
In her mind, Wen Yichen’s handsome figure gradually took shape. Then, the low voice of a boy drifted lazily into her ears. "Jiang Muwen, come help me pull up the zipper in the back."
"Jiang Muwen."
Another male voice pulled her thoughts back completely.
Jiang Muwen suddenly opened her eyes. So that sentence had not been something she imagined. It was real.
"Ah." She turned around and saw Wen Yichen’s back exposed to the air before she finally came to herself. "Oh, wait."
As she spoke, Jiang Muwen hurried to his back. The boy in front of her was tall, but that did not stop her from admiring the smooth, pale skin of his back. A boy’s back could actually be this beautiful.
Seeing that she had still not moved, Wen Yichen tilted his head slightly. "What are you spacing out for? Can’t reach the zipper?"
If only Wen Yichen were not so fond of snapping at everything under the sun, he would be perfect. Unfortunately, there was no if only.
Her small hand pinched the zipper at his back, then easily pulled it upward. The next second, Wen Yichen slowly turned around and began straightening the dress. It was black, and even Jiang Muwen herself had not expected it to fit so closely.
The dress was off-shoulder. Its elegant black shade perfectly brought out the tone of his skin, and as her gaze drifted upward, she could even see the faint outline of his collarbones.
Wen Yichen had no interest in admiring his own outfit. He casually picked up the wig and put it on his head.
Jiang Muwen stood right in front of him as he adjusted the light brown wig, and her heart gave a little jolt. The boy before her had delicate and handsome features, and with the lazy indifference in his eyes, there was an indescribable sort of allure about him.
She stared at Wen Yichen, momentarily lost in a daze.
At last, Wen Yichen noticed that Jiang Muwen was looking at him. His eyes dropped naturally, only to meet her blank stare. She looked at him straight on, and somehow that made him feel a little nervous. He raised a hand and brushed his own face in the direction of her gaze. "Is there something on my face?"
Only after Wen Yichen asked did Jiang Muwen suddenly come back to herself. "No."
Just as the words left her mouth, the sound of the door opening reached both of them, followed immediately by Bai Xu’s lively voice. "Ladies, I borrowed the makeup!"
"Jiang Muwen, why don’t you do Brother Chen’s makeup?" Bai Xu said as he shoved the makeup bag into Jiang Muwen’s hands.
Jiang Muwen gave a soft "oh," then obediently took out all the cosmetics from the bag. She pressed Wen Yichen down into the chair and then, with a semblance of skill, applied the makeup to his face.
A moment later, she pulled an eyeliner pen from the bag. "Wen Yichen, I’ll do your eyeliner."
Wen Yichen answered carelessly with a soft "mm," then closed his eyes. He was unexpectedly well-behaved at that moment, yet in that obedience there seemed to be a hint of despair.
With the thought that things had already come to this and he might as well let her do as she pleased, Wen Yichen waited for Jiang Muwen to draw his eyeliner.
Little by little, her warm breath brushed gently against his cheek. She had leaned closer.
"Wow, Jiang Muwen, you’re amazing. You can actually do eyeliner," Bai Xu exclaimed, and Jiang Muwen’s hand trembled slightly.
"I can’t, actually."
Bai Xu: "..."
Wen Yichen: "..."
"You’ve just seen other people do eyeliner before, that’s all." Seeing that both boys had the same reaction, Jiang Muwen grew a little flustered. She could not do eyeliner, but she had watched people do it in videos. If others could do it after a few strokes with a pen, then how hard could it be?
Thinking that, Jiang Muwen tightened her grip on the eyeliner pen and reached her evil little hand toward Wen Yichen.
The tip of the pen was only a millimeter away from Wen Yichen’s eyelid, yet Jiang Muwen still could not bring herself to make the first move. It was so easy when she watched others do eyeliner; why was her hand trembling the moment it came to her?
"Jiang Muwen, can you even do this? If not, forget it. I think Brother Chen looks pretty good like this anyway."
With Bai Xu saying that, Jiang Muwen did not want to give up even if she could not do it. "I can."
The moment she finished speaking, the tip of the pen gently touched Wen Yichen’s eyelid. The instant it landed on his skin, his long lashes also quivered faintly.
She awkwardly traced along Wen Yichen’s eyelid. The more afraid she was of drawing it crooked, the more panicked she became. And the more panicked she became, the more her hand shook.
"Jiang Muwen..." At last, Bai Xu’s voice drifted up softly. "I’m suddenly very worried you’re going to poke Brother Chen blind."
