Chapter 155: The Queen of the Broadcasting Department!
Leaning against the waterscape curtain wall of the corridor, Tang Chong felt a rather heavy heart.
He knew why Jiang Keqing had suddenly insisted on taking pictures with him. He clearly knew that she would send those pictures to that woman, yet he had not refused—
"Could it be that deep down, I am also yearning for it?" Tang Chong tried to use the psychological knowledge he had learned to analyze his current state of mind. Regrettably, he could not determine the truest outcome.
The hardest thing for a person to understand is oneself.
Perhaps, so-called hatred was merely a way to comfort his own sensitive and fragile heart, a way to tell others that he was not insignificant after all.
You didn't want me. I—can also not want you.
The bearded man must have seen through his disguise long ago, which was why he sent him to this city, a city so close to them.
Thinking of that stiff face where almost no expression could be seen, warmth welled up in Tang Chong's heart.
In this world, there was someone whose gaze had never left him. He was more steadfast than a lover, warmer than a relative, and more capable than any gaze of giving him the motivation to move forward.
With this thought, Tang Chong's mood improved a lot.
Just as he was about to return to Red Eagle's private room to accept their flattery and applause to temporarily anesthetize himself, he saw a familiar woman behind the crystal curtain wall.
The woman looked extremely angry, her dignified and pretty face somewhat distorted.
"Chen Guanzhong, you beast. You are worse than a beast—I never expected you to be such a person. Count me, Lin, as blind for falling in love with a piece of trash like you—" the woman cursed out of exasperation. The sharp eloquence and on-the-spot adaptability praised by all the teachers and students in the school completely failed her at this moment.
So it was just a young couple having a spat.
Tang Chong adjusted his glasses and prepared to leave.
However, the words spoken by the man made him pause once again.
"Xiaoxiao, don't be angry. I am doing this for your good, too. Yes, you are very outstanding, you are very pretty, your broadcasting and hosting skills are very high, and you are the Queen of the Broadcasting Department—but what use is that? You have to face reality."
"Now is the final year of our university. The final year. University life must be separated from reality. What use is it that you are pretty? There are plenty of women prettier than you. What use is your high broadcasting level? Who cares about that? Queen of the Broadcasting Department? Please, open your eyes and look. Apart from those clueless students in school who treat you like a queen, who else takes you seriously?"
"You've also applied for jobs at the Pearl Radio and Television Station, and you're still interning there. Have you noticed the faces of those executives? Do they treat you like a queen? Do you dare to act like a queen in front of them?"
"It's rare that Director Chen likes you. As long as you nod your head, that reserved spot at the station will be yours—and Director Chen mentioned to me that as long as you stay, he will find a way to make you a host. The Pearl Radio Station is preparing to create a new entertainment program, paired between the famous host Wang Han and a new host—as long as you nod, you can become the host of this new program, paired with your favorite Wang Han. As long as you nod, you can become famous overnight and become the hottest new hosting star in this circle."
"Xiaoxiao, isn't your dream to become an excellent host? Why not seize this opportunity?"
The woman was clearly not moved by her boyfriend's words; instead, she cursed even more angrily, "Chen Guanzhong, why don't you go die? Why don't you go eat shit? You can even make a request like this? You want to send your own girlfriend to sleep with another man, are you still a man? Are you even human?"
"No matter what you say, I will not agree to your request. If you want to suck up to executives and kiss people's asses, go send your mother. Your mother loves you so much, she will definitely agree. I want to be a host, and I will strive for it through my own efforts. Also, you and I are through."
Slap—
The woman received a slap across her face.
That young man wearing small glasses, who looked gentle, handsome, and rather like a Korean superstar, wore a ferocious and cold sneer as he cursed, "Lin Weixiao, do you really think of yourself as a queen? Why don't you take a piss and look at what kind of trash you are. Judging by your family background—your father is a truck driver and your mother runs a sundry shop, with neither money nor connections—you still want to be a host? Wait another thirty years. Besides, how many on-camera hosts haven't been through this?"
"This is reality. Do you understand reality? Everything taught in books is a lie. School has school rules, society has society rules—step out of the flattery and applause of those idiots. Just spread your legs and you can have both fame and fortune. Why not do it? I'll give you one last chance. If you agree, everything is negotiable. You'll have whatever you want. If you don't agree, you'll be swept out the door tomorrow. Stay at the television station? You won't even get your internship report."
Lin Weixiao had never expected that the boyfriend who had always pampered her would raise his hand to slap her. For a moment, she was stunned and bewildered, and then she went wild.
She picked up the cup of freshly brewed hot coffee in front of her and hurled it straight at him. The delicate young man opposite her failed to dodge in time; although he covered his face promptly, his head was still scalded by the coffee, eliciting a cry of pain.
That wasn't all. Lin Weixiao picked up the ashtray from the table and smashed it toward his body.
Crash—
His chest was hit by the ashtray, and the man let out another miserable cry.
Caring no longer about maintaining his image, he grabbed a tablecloth and whipped it toward Lin Weixiao's face.
Swish—
The tablecloth swept through the air with a whistling sound toward Lin Weixiao's face, but the sound of Lin Weixiao crying out in pain never came.
One corner of the table was caught in the grip of a man's hand.
"It's you?" Lin Weixiao said in surprise.
"Who are you?" the man asked in puzzlement.
"Haven't you told him yet?" Tang Chong turned around, looking at the bewildered Lin Weixiao, and said, "After all this time, how much longer were you planning to keep it a secret?"
Chen Guanzhong's expression changed drastically, feeling as though a vibrant green hat had suddenly been placed upon his head.
Flying into a rage, he glared fiercely at Lin Weixiao and cursed, "Stinking bitch, you actually went behind my back to sleep with another wild man. You were always a cheap bitch, acting all pure in front of me just now—since you're so willing to let people sleep with you, what's the big deal about letting others sleep with you for a few nights?"
"Trying to curry favor with executives by offering up your own woman, a man like this is truly worthless," Tang Chong said with disdain. "It's not surprising at all that Xiaoxiao threw you away like stinking dog shit. If she still pined for you, her brain would really be full of water—you should leave. Just looking at you makes my eyes dirty."
"Leave? What gives you the right to make me leave? Is this your territory? What kind of trash are you?" Chen Guanzhong said with a sneer. He forcefully tried to yank the tablecloth back from Tang Chong's grip.
Seeing that Tang Chong was tall and thin, and even wore large glasses, he figured Tang Chong couldn't possibly be very strong. He hadn't expected that after several attempts, he would fail to pull it back.
"What? Still want to throw punches?" Tang Chong asked with a smile.
"Let go," Chen Guanzhong said fiercely. "This is a matter between me and Xiaoxiao, you'd better stay out of it, lest you bring trouble upon yourself."
"I made myself so clear, and you're still pretending not to understand?" Tang Chong smiled. "Since that's the case, we'll just have to find a way to make you a bit more clear-headed."
Chen Guanzhong had exerted all his strength just now, yet he couldn't pull the tablecloth away from Tang Chong's grip. However, with just a gentle tug from Tang Chong, the tablecloth slipped right out of Chen Guanzhong's hands.
With one hand, he held a corner of the tablecloth and spun it rapidly, twisting the fabric into a cloth baton. Then he whipped it out fiercely.
Crack—
Chen Guanzhong's glasses were whipped away, smashing into fragments against the glass curtain wall.
Crack—
With the second strike, Tang Chong whipped Chen Guanzhong across the face.
A purplish-red bloody welt instantly appeared on his fair, delicate cheek, the skin split open with bright red blood seeping through.
Crack—
The third strike landed on his nose, and his nose immediately began to gush blood like an opened valve.
Chen Guanzhong cried.
Covering his nose, he shouted, "Security! Security! Someone is beating people—someone is trying to kill people—"
Several bodyguards dressed in black suits quickly approached the area, only to be blocked at the corner by a roly-poly figure.
He waved his hand, and the bodyguards quietly retreated, pretending they had seen nothing at all.
"Security—Security—" Chen Guanzhong continued to shout at the top of his lungs.
Crack—
With the fourth strike, Tang Chong whipped him across the mouth.
And just like that, his mouth was shut.
Covering his nose with one hand and his mouth with the other, he looked utterly comical and ridiculous.
"Even if you shout until your throat breaks, no one is coming to save you," Tang Chong said with a smile. As soon as he finished speaking, he realized that line sounded quite familiar. "Get lost. Don't let me see you again."
Realizing something was amiss, Chen Guanzhong turned around and bolted outside.
Tang Chong shook out the tablecloth and carefully spread it neatly back over the table.
He picked up the ashtray from the floor, pointed to the opposite chair, and said to Lin Weixiao, "Unwilling to sit with me for a while?"
"Why are you here?" There was still a clear handprint on Lin Weixiao's face; it seemed that pretty boy had indeed struck with merciless cruelty.
"Why are you here?" Tang Chong countered with a smile.
Lin Weixiao's eye rims turned red. She pulled out a tissue to wipe her eyes, then forced a stubborn smile and said, "Sorry, I made a fool of myself in front of you."
"It's nothing," Tang Chong said. "Before a woman finds the right man, who hasn't liked a few idiots?"
