Chapter Seventy-Seven: Allied Dorms!

The entire class was silent.

Everyone stared blankly at Jiao Nanxin, who was speaking with such confidence, feeling a mix of amusement and excitement.

A student bold enough to tell a teacher to be quiet—such a thing was rare indeed.

“At that moment, I was no longer just tracking the Audi—I was witnessing ten years of my life…” Jiao Nanxin suddenly paused. She finally realized what she had just done.

She looked up, eyes wide, at Zhang Gaoyuan standing on the podium, unable to utter another word.

“Go on,” Zhang Gaoyuan said with a smile.

“Teacher, I—I didn’t know it was you,” Jiao Nanxin apologized, embarrassed. Her wheat-colored skin flushed rosy pink. The girl who had just been so sharp and eloquent now seemed shy and feminine. “I’m sorry, I was too rude. I just wanted to express my thoughts fully, without interruption.”

“I understand. That’s why I asked you to continue,” Zhang Gaoyuan replied, smiling.

When she’d shouted “You shut up” at him, his first reaction had been fury. Utter fury.

He was the teacher—he stood at the podium to impart knowledge. It was always he who told the students below to be quiet; never had he been told to shut up by a student.

But seeing that the girl was completely immersed in the scene from the video, thinking deeply and trying to persuade her interlocutor with her own views, unaware of what she’d just done, he was moved instead.

She was stubborn, and she was persistent. Once she set her mind to something, she wouldn’t change easily.

He liked students like her. He also believed such students had a bright future ahead.

“You go ahead,” Jiao Nanxin rubbed her face and smiled sheepishly.

“No, you continue,” Zhang Gaoyuan said. “I’ll shut up first.”

The class burst into laughter.

Even Zhang Gaoyuan couldn’t help but laugh after saying this.

Jiao Nanxin lowered her head, giggling, and quickly sketched a little figure on white paper, then stabbed its chest vigorously with her pen.

“Hey, Second Brother, what do you think of this shirt? Does it look cool?” Liang Tao’s bed was covered in clothes as he tried out outfits in front of the mirror.

“Not bad,” Tang Zhong looked up, admired it, and said with a smile.

Then Liang Tao turned to Hua Ming, “Big Brother, how’s this outfit?”

Hua Ming was crouched on the balcony, bathing his rabbit, Little Darling. He had a dinner date with a beautiful girl tonight and believed the rabbit was his secret weapon to outshine his rival, Liang Tao.

He might not be handsome, but the rabbit’s fur had to gleam.

Hua Ming glanced up and replied perfunctorily, “Take it off. Hurry up and take it off. It’s hideous. Hideous beyond words.”

“Alright, this is the one then,” Liang Tao said, satisfied. “If Big Brother says it’s no good, it must be great. I trust his world-class bumpkin taste.”

“Pfft,” Hua Ming retorted angrily, “Look at your outfit, you look like a lovesick fool. Anyone who didn’t know you would think you were working as a gigolo in a nightclub. Do you have any sense of style? Any taste? Any substance? Wait until Gentleman Hua finishes dressing up, then you’ll be the one hiding in the corner, ashamed and crying.”

“I’m just worried you’ll end up in the corner crying yourself,” Liang Tao shot back.

Tang Zhong smiled knowingly.

Even though Hua Ming’s identity had been revealed, he was still the same—bantering, joking, acting silly. Nothing had changed.

Liang Tao and Li Yu hadn’t distanced themselves or tried to flatter him either; their relationship hadn’t soured, but had grown more genuine.

“You’re not even as good as my rabbit,” Hua Ming said, lifting the rabbit out of the basin and gently drying it with a snowy towel. “Once Little Darling steps in, you and Li Yu are done for.”

“Why not include Second Brother in your massacre?” Liang Tao teased.

“Second Brother isn’t my rival,” Hua Ming replied breezily. “He likes that Su Shan—I, Lord Hua, don’t care for her.”

“Sounds like sour grapes to me,” Liang Tao said disdainfully. “By the way, didn’t you say you were the only one in this dorm who could win over Su Shan? You said if you couldn’t, you’d eat Little Darling raw—so why haven’t you eaten it?”

“I said if you succeeded, I’d eat Little Darling raw. Did you?”

“That’s not what you said.”

“Any proof?”

“Of course not—shameless.”

“Who needs shame?”

Tang Zhong was used to the two’s antics. He took out his phone, checked the time, and said, “Come on, tidy up. We need to head out.”

“Second Brother, aren’t you going to dress up?” Liang Tao noticed Tang Zhong was still wearing the same clothes from that morning, hadn’t showered or changed, and spoke up. “Pick any of my clothes, wear whatever you like. You can’t drag down our dorm’s image.”

“No need,” Tang Zhong waved it off with a smile. “I’m not competing with you guys.”

“Look at Second Brother’s attitude,” Liang Tao praised. “Big Brother, look at yourself, you’re like a wild wolf in heat.”

Qiu Yihan called, arranging to meet at the school gate.

When Tang Zhong and his friends arrived, Qiu Yihan and her three roommates were already waiting at the gate.

Qiu Yihan wore light-blue skinny jeans that accentuated her long, slender legs, with a black V-neck sweater and a pale scarf around her neck. Her long hair flowed down, her skin was fair, her eyes large, and she stood tall and graceful—a pure campus beauty.

Standing at the school gate, she drew the attention of every boy passing by. Some even walked past her again and again, awkwardly “bumping into her” just to steal another glance.

At first, she glared at each one. But soon, there were so many staring that her eyes grew tired, so she simply lowered her head to chat with her roommates, ignoring the looks.

Seeing Tang Zhong and his friends come out, she waved happily, “Over here, over here!”

Tang Zhong smiled, thinking, You’re so conspicuous, we don’t need you to call us.

Liang Tao hurried over and said with a smile, “Sorry to keep you waiting.”

“No problem. We just got here too,” He Na chimed in, her eyes lighting up as she noticed Liang Tao’s outfit. She knew quality and recognized that he was dressed head-to-toe in designer brands. “What do you guys like to eat?”

“I’m fine with anything. Ladies’ tastes come first,” Liang Tao replied.

“Wow, a rabbit!” Luo Huan and Cheng Pei saw Hua Ming at the back carrying a rabbit cage and squealed, running over.

“It’s not just any rabbit,” Hua Ming said seriously. “Its name is Little Darling.”

“Wow, Little Darling is so cute!” Luo Huan reached out to stroke its fur.

“So snowy white. I wish I could have one too,” Cheng Pei said excitedly.

“Yes, rabbits are adorable, but raising them isn’t easy. You might not believe me, but raising a rabbit is like raising a child. You have to pay attention to its eating habits, know its food preferences, there are so many greens, and always one it likes best. Feed and water it at set times, bathe and groom it daily—it’s a lot of work,” Hua Ming explained, sounding like an expert.

“Wow, you’re amazing, knowing all this,” Luo Huan said admiringly.

“So meticulous! If you’re so attentive with a rabbit, you must be even more gentle with your girlfriend, right?”

“No, he’s only meticulous with the rabbit,” Liang Tao quipped.

Hua Ming ignored Liang Tao, remaining calm and composed. “I don’t care what others think, nor how they mock me. I genuinely love this little white spirit. It’s so white, so cute, and seeing it always lifts my mood, all my worries vanish…”

“Some people even want me to eat it. The three guys in my dorm are eager to turn it into rabbit hotpot, but I’ve refused them all. It’s a living creature, a life with emotions, just like humans—it deserves respect. Since we crossed paths, it’s my responsibility to care for it and give it a happy life.”

The two girls were completely taken in, gazing at Hua Ming with stars in their eyes. “I never expected someone your size to be so sensitive.”

“Yeah, whoever becomes your girlfriend will be so lucky.”

“Making your woman happy is a man’s most basic duty,” Hua Ming said. “Just like this rabbit—since it’s not anyone else’s Little Darling, but mine, it’s my responsibility to take good care of it.”

The girls all liked spicy food, so they found a restaurant called Sichuan-Hunan Cuisine at the school gate.

Inside the private room, Tang Zhong and Li Yu chose seats in the corner.

Qiu Yihan sat directly across from Tang Zhong, while Liang Tao shamelessly sat next to her. But He Na also chose the seat beside Liang Tao.

Luo Huan and Cheng Pei, enchanted by Hua Ming’s “rabbit philosophy,” stuck close to him, discussing rabbit-raising tips.

Everyone was young and shared common topics. With Hua Ming and Liang Tao stirring things up, there wasn’t a hint of awkwardness despite it being their first meal together.

Hua Ming stood up with a glass of beer and declared loudly, “I propose that Dorm 307 in Building Six and Dorm 401 in Building Nineteen become allied dorms! Based on mutual help and benefit: men do the dirty work, women eat the snacks and fruit; if anyone bullies the girls, the guys stand up; if anyone bullies the guys, the girls applaud; if the girls feel wronged, they can borrow a shoulder from the guys; if the guys feel wronged, they can borrow a pillow from their roommates. Both sides coexist peacefully, united forever—”

After Hua Ming agreed to a series of humiliating, outrageous, and utterly bottomless conditions, the girls cheered their support.

(P.S.: A quick survey—did you ever have an allied dorm in college?)
