Chapter 123: Mr. Chen, You Must Help Me Out
Chen Yang smiled at Qin Guoshan because he realized that even at this stage, his father-in-law still doubted his medical skills.
After a brief laugh, Chen Yang didn't stand on ceremony with Qin Guoshan and said with a chuckle, "Dad, what do you mean by that? Don't tell me you're thinking of changing doctors again?"
"That's not what I meant. I was just asking why your mother's complexion hasn't looked good these past two days," Qin Guoshan asked with a frown.
Chen Yang replied with a faint smile, "Dad, there are two reasons for this. One is that Mom's illness hasn't fully healed yet, so her complexion is naturally poor. The other is that your previous forced intervention in her treatment has, to some extent, had an impact on her body."
"Is it anything serious?" Qin Guoshan asked earnestly.
"No, as long as Mom lets me treat her, there will absolutely be no major issues," Chen Yang said with a confident smile.
"Chen... oh, no, brother-in-law, aren't you being a bit overconfident?" Su Xiaoling suddenly interjected, looking at Chen Yang with disdain.
Chen Yang looked at Su Xiaoling, a broad smile spreading across his face. "I can't help it; that’s just how confident I am."
"Tch." Su Xiaoling rolled her eyes and turned her head away, refusing to look at him anymore.
Chen Yang just smiled at her; he didn't take her sarcasm to heart. His inner resolve was incredibly strong these days, and there was no way he would start doubting himself just because of a few snide remarks from a young girl like Su Xiaoling. That was simply impossible.
Afterward, Chen Yang ushered Qin Guoshan, Qin Muxue, and Su Xiaoling out. He sat quietly by the hospital bed, administering acupuncture to his mother-in-law.
This session took another two hours, but fortunately, after the treatment, his mother-in-law's complexion showed a clear improvement.
Chen Yang packed his silver needles back into the black cloth pouch and then called the others back into the room. As soon as Qin Guoshan stepped inside, he noticed that Han Qin’s face looked much better, and he felt a great sense of relief.
Qin Muxue also noticed the change and, approaching her mother with a smile, asked, "Mom, are you feeling much better?"
Han Qin’s face was still slightly pale, but she nodded with a smile and said, "Yes, yes. Chen Yang’s technique is actually quite good."
"Mom, that goes without saying," Chen Yang said, arching an eyebrow. Facing his mother-in-law's praise, he didn't show an ounce of humility, appearing quite high-profile instead.
"Tch, some people just don't know how to be modest," Su Xiaoling remarked from the side, looking utterly unimpressed.
Chen Yang immediately looked at her and laughed, "With someone like me, is it even possible to be modest?"
"You're full of yourself," Su Xiaoling retorted with a sneer.
"Can't help it, when you've got the talent, you're naturally full of yourself," Chen Yang replied cheerfully. Since Su Xiaoling insisted on picking a fight with her words, he didn't back down.
"Alright, alright."
Su Xiaoling was so angry her face turned red. Just as she was about to bicker further with him, Qin Muxue stepped in to stop them. "Alright, both of you, just calm down."
Chen Yang smiled at Su Xiaoling and shrugged.
Su Xiaoling let out a scoff and turned her head away again.
After a while, Qin Muxue wondered if Chen Yang still had unfinished business with President Shen, so she turned to him and asked, "Chen Yang, you’ve checked on Mom now. Do you still need to go see President Shen? If you have things to do, you should go ahead."
"No, no, I’m all finished. From now on, I’ll focus on keeping you and the rest of the family company," Chen Yang said with a smile.
Qin Muxue blushed slightly. Chen Yang’s words stirred something in her, and her face flushed with shyness.
Chen Yang spent the rest of the time in the hospital room, keeping Qin Muxue and his in-laws company. In the blink of an eye, the night passed.
The next day, Chen Yang’s life seemed to return to normal. At nine in the morning, he arrived at Huading Company right on time. Before he could even get comfortable in his chair, his phone rang. He pulled it out and saw it was Shen Donghua calling.
Chen Yang naturally held calls from Shen Donghua in high regard. He quickly answered, and heard Shen Donghua chuckle, "President Chen, I’ve been discharged today. I can help you with work again from now on."
"You’re discharged? You’re already able to leave?" Chen Yang was filled with surprise, as he had expected Shen Donghua to be in the hospital for a while longer.
Shen Donghua said softly, "President Chen, my wounds have healed, and being cooped up in the hospital every day is boring. I consulted the doctor, and they said I could be discharged."
"Is that so? Well, if the doctor says you can be discharged, then you must listen to them," Chen Yang said earnestly.
Shen Donghua chuckled, "Yes, President Chen. I heard that recently, in the provincial capital, someone caused some unpleasantness for you?"
Chen Yang knew Shen Donghua was referring to the incident with Gao Song and Xu Tianmeng, so he replied with a relaxed laugh, "Yes, there were two people who caused some trouble, but I’m dealing with them now."
"Is that so? It seems I’ve missed quite a lot of excitement while being stuck in the hospital. I'll be back at the office tomorrow, maybe we can discuss it then?" Shen Donghua suggested.
"Sounds good," Chen Yang agreed readily. As he finished speaking, he considered whether he should go over to help Shen Donghua with his discharge, so he asked with concern, "When are you handling the discharge papers? Do you need me to come over?"
"No, no, President Chen. Zhang Lin is here, he’ll take care of everything," Shen Donghua said seriously.
"Really? Then I won't come over?"
"No, really, there's no need."
"Alright then. Regardless, even though you’re out, you still need to look after your health and take good care of yourself. I’ll come to see you tonight," Chen Yang said calmly.
Shen Donghua felt a warm glow of gratitude and smiled, "Alright, thank you."
"Alright, I'm hanging up."
"Okay."
After Shen Donghua replied, Chen Yang ended the call. He went back to work, but at eleven in the morning, his phone rang again. This time, when he checked, it was Xiao Rongfei.
Seeing that it was Xiao Rongfei, Chen Yang smiled helplessly. It seemed like it had been a long time since he had a proper conversation with her. He wondered why she was calling now.
Chen Yang answered, and heard Xiao Rongfei’s respectful, smiling voice, "President Chen, are you busy? How long has it been since we sat down for a chat?"
There was a hint of complaint in her tone, which made Chen Yang feel a bit awkward. He laughed, "You’re right, it has been a long time."
"Then, how about I treat you to dinner tonight?" Xiao Rongfei immediately suggested.
"Tonight? I actually have some plans," Chen Yang said helplessly. He was, of course, referring to visiting President Shen.
Xiao Rongfei said anxiously, "President Chen, please, you must find some time for me tonight. I have something I need your help with."
"Is that so? In that case, let’s meet at six tonight at the Oriental Hotel. My treat," Chen Yang said decisively. He figured he could have dinner with Xiao Rongfei and then go see Shen Donghua afterward. Since they were meeting at six, they would be done by eight at the latest, which wouldn't interfere with his plans.
Xiao Rongfei said excitedly, "Alright, thank you, thank you, President Chen."
"We're friends, it's no trouble at all," Chen Yang laughed. He didn't know how Xiao Rongfei viewed him, but he certainly considered her a friend.
"Then it's a date for six tonight."
"Yes, see you then," Chen Yang said.
After hanging up, Chen Yang went about his day. At six in the evening, in the lobby of the Oriental Hotel, Chen Yang and Xiao Rongfei met as planned.
Xiao Rongfei was wearing a pair of red high heels, her figure full and curvaceous—a total goddess.
As they sat across from each other, Chen Yang could immediately see that Xiao Rongfei was troubled. He asked with concern, "President Xiao, you said you wanted to discuss something during dinner. What is it?"
Hearing this, Xiao Rongfei sighed and said, "President Chen, you are always so good to me."
"Let's not get into that yet. Just tell me what’s going on," Chen Yang said with a mild smile.
Xiao Rongfei thought for a moment, took a sip of tea from her white porcelain cup, and set it down. With a serious expression, she said, "President Chen, I was hoping to borrow some money from you. My company is facing business difficulties, and I need ten million. It’s a large sum, but not exactly astronomical. I don't dare to borrow from loan companies, so I thought of you. Please, help me."
"Ten million? It’s not a huge amount, but what exactly has gone wrong with your operations?" Chen Yang asked earnestly.
Xiao Rongfei gave a bitter smile. "As you know, my company started out in design. Design is a relatively weak industry; you’re at the mercy of clients and large corporations. Money isn't easy to come by."
"Things were fine for the first two years, but recently the construction industry hasn't been as lucrative as it used to be. Plus, quite a few design firms have opened up in Linhai over the last two years, increasing the competition. With so much competition, it's inevitable that some engage in malicious tactics. After some back and forth, my company has fallen into a very difficult position."
