Chapter Thirty-Seven: The Once King Has Returned
Han Qin’s face darkened at the sight, as if she had nothing more to say. Qin Guoshan, shaken to his core, pointed at Zhou Weiliang and asked, “Did you have him brought here?”
“Yes, Dad, exactly. I just wanted Mom to wake up to reality as soon as possible. So, Mu Xue, what do you think?” Chen Yang turned to Qin Mu Xue with a lighthearted smile.
Qin Mu Xue still found it hard to believe. She looked at Chen Yang and asked, “Is this really the boss of the company Mom invested in?”
“Yes,” Chen Yang replied helplessly. “Would I joke about something like this? Of course it’s true. How about I let him explain himself?”
With a slight smile, Chen Yang walked over to Zhou Weiliang, removed the black cloth from Zhou’s mouth, and patted his face. “I’m not going to hit you now. Say what you need to say, and quickly.”
But Zhou Weiliang tried to play dumb, his face tense. “What do you want me to say?”
Without hesitation, Chen Yang raised his fist and struck Zhou Weiliang’s face with cold indifference. He had always been resolute when dealing with his enemies.
There was a dull thud as Chen Yang’s fist landed squarely on Zhou’s nose, breaking it instantly.
Han Qin, Qin Mu Xue, and Qin Guoshan all wore complicated expressions as they witnessed this.
“Will you talk now?” Chen Yang withdrew his fist, his voice icy.
Zhou Weiliang immediately caved. “Okay, I’ll talk. I’m nothing but a con artist. My company is just a front for illegal fundraising; we use money from new recruits to pay off the top. Anyone who invests with us, we call them ‘pigs’ behind their backs, and the process of luring them into giving us money is called ‘slaughtering the pig’.”
“Our targets are usually retired seniors with nothing to do at home and some spare cash, just like Auntie here.”
Satisfied, Chen Yang patted Zhou Weiliang’s face and stood up slowly.
Zhou Weiliang had just exposed the entire inner workings of his company. As long as Han Qin wasn’t utterly foolish, she would now realize she had been duped.
So Chen Yang didn’t say more. He took out his phone and called the police.
Soon, two officers arrived in a patrol car and stopped at the villa gates. After a brief discussion with Chen Yang, they took Zhou Weiliang away.
After Zhou was taken, Han Qin immediately thought of the hundred thousand yuan she’d invested and said anxiously, “What about my money?”
“Don’t worry, Mom,” Chen Yang replied easily. “Your money is still in the Xingchen company account for now. The police have already frozen their funds, so as the case gets investigated, victims like you will gradually get their money back.”
So it turned out that everything had been orchestrated by Chen Yang.
He had Wu Guangde bring Zhou Weiliang here early in the morning, tied up, and dropped at the doorstep. At the same time, he pulled some strings and reported the case to the police.
It was all very straightforward, but if Chen Yang hadn’t had people like Lin Qianyao to help him in Linhai, if he hadn’t had capable connections, he might not have been able to bring Zhou Weiliang down so easily.
But no matter what, the ending was a good one. Zhou Weiliang received the punishment he deserved, and even Li Aifen, who was an executive in the company, wouldn’t escape justice.
Qin Mu Xue was naturally delighted and felt both grateful and puzzled toward Chen Yang.
Her gratitude was easy to understand, but her confusion stemmed from the fact that she couldn’t figure out how Chen Yang had managed to resolve everything so effortlessly, like a deity descending from the heavens.
Could it be that President Shen Donghua had been secretly helping again?
Qin Mu Xue thought this was highly likely.
After all, to solve something so perfectly, without Shen Donghua’s help, it would have been far more difficult.
“Mom, are you finally thinking clearly now?” Qin Mu Xue looked reproachfully at Han Qin.
Han Qin replied awkwardly, “Your Aunt Li made it all sound so convincing. I didn’t have the brains to see through it.”
“Mom, a setback is a lesson. Learn from this, and don’t let it happen again.” Qin Mu Xue said earnestly.
Han Qin nodded, feeling especially aggrieved inside. She had always prided herself on being strong, but this time, she had lost face in front of her family.
“Chen Yang, thank you,” Qin Mu Xue said, turning to him.
Chen Yang responded with a relaxed smile, “No need for thanks. We’re all family, aren’t we? No need for such formalities.”
“Mom, this time it’s all thanks to Chen Yang,” Qin Mu Xue deliberately said to Han Qin.
She was simply being objective, hoping Han Qin would remember the help she received from Chen Yang.
Han Qin, still a bit irritated, muttered, “I’m not a child, you know. Always talking so much.”
“Chen Yang, let me thank you on my mother’s behalf,” Qin Mu Xue said, seeing that Han Qin hadn’t offered a word of thanks. She wanted Han Qin to see that Chen Yang had helped her, and that the least she could do was offer him thanks.
“Thank you, Chen Yang,” Han Qin said at once. Though she could be difficult, she was still a woman in her fifties—old enough to know when to let things go.
Chen Yang smiled faintly and said nothing more.
The matter was settled; he didn’t want to argue with Han Qin. It was best to let the incident blow over quickly.
Afterwards, Chen Yang said to Qin Mu Xue, “Mu Xue, aren’t you heading to work soon? Come on, let’s go upstairs and freshen up.”
Qin Mu Xue nodded quickly.
After this ordeal, her feelings toward Chen Yang had only grown warmer.
She was genuinely pleased to see Chen Yang changing for the better—something she had always hoped for.
At half past eight in the morning, Chen Yang arrived at Huading Corporation.
There wasn’t much to do at the office: just review some documents and take calls from the various departments.
He remembered his mother’s words and was determined to manage Huading Group well—ideally, to make even the Chen family in Yanjing look up to him, to make those who once drove him and his mother away see and regret their actions.
Chen Yang understood that this was likely the very reason his mother had insisted he manage Huading Group so well.
He had always held deep respect for his mother.
He vowed silently to himself that he would make Huading Group a world-renowned enterprise.
He was working hard toward that goal.
Before he knew it, ten o’clock had come and gone.
Amid his work, his phone suddenly buzzed on his desk.
Chen Yang glanced at the caller ID in surprise: it was Xiao Rongfei, the beautiful CEO of Rose Design Company.
He found it amusing and intriguing to receive a call from such a woman.
He answered at a leisurely pace. Xiao Rongfei’s clear voice rang out with a laugh. “President Chen, am I interrupting your work?”
“Not at all,” Chen Yang replied with a smile. “President Xiao, what can I do for you?”
“President Chen, may I invite you for coffee at noon? I enjoy making friends, and I think we could become friends. This time, it’s just coffee and conversation—no business talk. Will you do me the honor?” Xiao Rongfei asked.
Chen Yang smiled lightly at her words.
She claimed she only wanted to make friends over coffee, but if he weren’t the head of Huading, would she have asked him out?
So, the beautiful CEO’s invitation was not entirely free of business motives.
Still, Chen Yang had heard that Xiao Rongfei enjoyed a stellar reputation in Linhai’s elite business circles—a heroine among women, genuinely fond of making friends.
He was willing to give her a chance to chat. There was no harm in it.
With this in mind, Chen Yang agreed with a smile, “President Xiao, you’re too kind. As a gentleman, I really should be the one to treat you.”
Xiao Rongfei laughed, “President Chen, I was hoping to show off a little today, but you won’t even give me the chance?”
“It’s just a cup of coffee. I’m sure you can afford it, President Xiao,” Chen Yang joked.
“Exactly, President Chen. I’ll be waiting for you at the Left Bank Café. Do you know where that is?” she asked.
What a joke! He’d once worked as a deliveryman, riding all over Linhai City. Was there anywhere in Linhai he didn’t know?
“Of course. I know it well,” Chen Yang replied promptly.
Xiao Rongfei laughed. “Then I’ll be at the café entrance, waiting for your grand arrival.”
Chen Yang answered, “President Xiao, you’re far too courteous. We’re just making friends, right? No need for all this ceremony.”
“Mm, alright,” Xiao Rongfei replied sweetly.
Chen Yang smiled and hung up.
At half past eleven, he drove the company’s Audi A6 to the Left Bank Café. As soon as he got out of the car, he saw Xiao Rongfei emerge from a white, customized racing car and wave to him. “Hey, President Chen.”
Seeing her climb out of a racing car, Chen Yang’s eyes lit up. “Oh, President Xiao, are you a racing driver as well?”
Xiao Rongfei answered modestly, “It’s just a little hobby. President Chen, do you know racing?”
“It’s been a long time since I’ve done it,” Chen Yang said with a faint smile.
Little did she know that, while Chen Yang’s piano skills were extraordinary, his talent for racing was equally legendary.
When it came to racing, Chen Yang had once been a king.
