Chapter 98: Heaven's No. 1 Villa is Mine
"What's there to be upset about? You've been sneaking around lately, and it doesn't look like you're up to anything good," Qin Guoshan said with a look of suspicion.
Chen Yang shrugged, his face full of helplessness. "Dad, if you don't believe me, there's really nothing I can do."
With that, Chen Yang turned to head upstairs.
But just then, Qin Guoshan suddenly stood up from the sofa. "Stop right there."
Chen Yang looked at him calmly and smiled. "Dad, is there something else you'd like to say?"
"Chen Yang, tonight, you need to make yourself clear." Qin Guoshan's face was icy.
Chen Yang could only sigh in exasperation. "Dad, what exactly do you want me to explain? What do you want me to say?"
Just as he finished, Han Qin stormed out of the kitchen, her voice sharp with anger. "Chen Yang, own up to what you've done. Be a man. Even if you admit it to your father, so what? We're all family here. Do you think he's going to spread it around outside?"
Hearing this, Chen Yang was even more helpless.
He could see now that his in-laws had already decided that he was the one behind all these schemes.
No wonder the two of them were united on this front.
Still, no matter what, he would never reveal the real truth behind the Qin Group's bankruptcy, not even if his life depended on it.
So, Chen Yang kept up his smile and said, "Anyway, I really don't know anything about this. Dad, Mom, it's best if you believe me. If you don't, there's nothing I can do."
With that, Chen Yang ignored their angry stares and went straight upstairs.
In the bedroom, after closing the door, he let out a long breath.
Terrifying.
Absolutely terrifying.
His father-in-law and mother-in-law were truly formidable.
How could they think such things?
Yet, on the other hand, their suspicions weren't entirely wrong. The truth was, he was indeed involved in the Qin Group's downfall.
He just would never admit it.
At half past six, the family gathered around the dinner table.
Partway through the meal, Qin Guoshan looked at Chen Yang and said, "Chen Yang, it seems the house has gotten a bit crowded lately."
Chen Yang paused, chopsticks in mid-air, and looked at his father-in-law.
He wasn't stupid. He knew exactly what that meant.
Was he being asked to leave?
He was always straightforward, so he voiced his displeasure immediately. "Dad, what do you mean by that?"
"Dad, eat your food," Qin Muxue tried to smooth things over from the side.
But Qin Guoshan seemed determined to send him packing. "You should go out and stay elsewhere for a couple of days. Clear your head."
Now Chen Yang understood.
His father-in-law was convinced he had been giving Shen Donghua advice behind the scenes and wanted him gone.
But Chen Yang was not someone to be bullied easily. He set down his chopsticks, narrowed his eyes at Qin Guoshan, and said, "Dad, so you're set on making me leave, is that it?"
Qin Guoshan took a bite of rice, chewed slowly, and said nothing.
His silence was answer enough.
Chen Yang sneered to himself.
He turned to Han Qin and asked seriously, "Mom, what do you think?"
"As long as you tell the truth, everything can be worked out," Han Qin said softly, quickly picking up more food to change the subject.
Chen Yang protested loudly, "Mom, I haven't done anything! What am I supposed to admit to? I’m more wronged than Dou E!"
"Even if, for the sake of argument, it was me who gave Mr. Shen advice, so what? Is the harmony of our family less important than the Qin Group?"
"You all have deep feelings for the Qin Group, but you can't put all the blame for its bankruptcy on me."
"If I really was the one pulling strings, do you think without me, Mr. Shen wouldn't have gone after Qin Group?"
"You shouldn't blame me for its collapse, but instead think about how much wrong Qin Muxue's uncle, Qin Chao, and Qin Yan have done."
His words were powerful enough to darken both Han Qin and Qin Guoshan's faces.
This time, Qin Muxue also sided with Chen Yang, saying seriously, "Mom, I think Chen Yang is right. Dad, it hasn’t been easy for our family to come this far. Please, just let it go."
"I'm not doing this because of that," Qin Guoshan insisted. "I just want you to go out for a couple of days, give yourself some space, and give me some too."
Chen Yang hadn't expected that even after all he'd said, Qin Guoshan still wanted him to leave.
At this point, there was no point in resisting further.
He smiled, stood up slowly from his chair, and said, "Dad, if that's how you feel, I'm really disappointed."
"I've been a part of this family for so long and put in so much, and now, because of some baseless accusation, you want to kick me out. How amusing."
"Actually, there is something I've been keeping from you. I was going to wait until Muxue's birthday to reveal it."
"But since you’re all so cold today, I’ll say it now. It’s not that I have nowhere to go. The Imperial Pavilion’s No. 1 Villa is mine. I’m not homeless."
With this revelation, the room fell utterly silent.
Qin Guoshan, Han Qin, Su Xiaoling, Qin Muxue—all of them stared at him in disbelief.
Chen Yang, however, was unfazed by their skepticism. He remained calm. "I used the savings I've been hiding all along to buy the No. 1 Villa at Imperial Pavilion. I planned it as a birthday present for Muxue."
"The property deed has both my name and Muxue's on it. I’m not homeless. In fact, my house is much better than this one."
The atmosphere grew even more tense.
The disbelief in their eyes was quickly replaced by astonishment.
Han Qin was silent for seven or eight seconds before finally asking, "Chen Yang, did you really buy a villa? How much did it cost?"
"Mom, is there any point in discussing this now?" Chen Yang replied coldly.
"Who knows if it's true," Han Qin said dismissively.
Chen Yang laughed. "Muxue, I was planning to give you this house as a birthday gift, but I have to reveal it early now. Since it's not dark yet, why don’t we go and have a look?"
Qin Muxue swallowed, skepticism evident on her face. "The Imperial Pavilion’s No. 1 Villa? Do you even know how much that costs?"
"Five million," Chen Yang replied with a smile.
"How much did you put down as a deposit?" Qin Muxue asked.
Chen Yang grinned. "I told you, I used all my hidden savings. I paid in full, no installments."
"In full?"
Qin Muxue exclaimed in shock.
Han Qin, Qin Guoshan, and Su Xiaoling all looked equally astonished.
Chen Yang kept smiling at Qin Muxue. "That's right, paid in full. Surprised?"
"Chen Yang, I can accept that you don't make much money, but I can't accept you lying to me. Don't lie," Qin Muxue said seriously.
"Why would I lie?" Chen Yang replied with a helpless laugh.
He looked at the others and said earnestly, "I know you all have your doubts, but it doesn't matter. The keys are upstairs in the bedroom. I can take everyone to see for themselves right now."
"Aunt, Uncle, let's go have a look. I haven't seen what the No. 1 Villa looks like," Su Xiaoling suggested to Qin Guoshan and Han Qin.
Qin Guoshan's pride wouldn't let him go, so he shook his head. "I'm not going. If you want to, go ahead."
Chen Yang glanced at him and smiled, thinking to himself how stubborn his father-in-law was. He turned to Qin Muxue. "Muxue, Dad wants to save face, so let's go have a look ourselves."
"Sis, let's go check it out. Who knows if he’s bluffing?" Su Xiaoling chuckled.
Qin Muxue looked helpless.
Chen Yang retorted to Su Xiaoling, "Hey, who’s bluffing? Want to bet again?"
"Who wants to bet with you?" Su Xiaoling rolled her eyes.
Chen Yang snickered. "So you’re scared?"
"Yeah, I am. So what?" she replied with disdain.
Chen Yang just laughed, not bothering to argue with the little troublemaker.
After some thought, Qin Muxue finally nodded.
Chen Yang snapped his fingers. "Great, let's go."
With Qin Muxue agreeing to go with him, Chen Yang was delighted.
He thought to himself, Muxue, this time I’ll really show you what I can do.
He left his meal unfinished, gathered Su Xiaoling and Qin Muxue, and with Han Qin eager to come along, he brought her too.
The four of them piled into Qin Muxue's Mercedes G-Wagon.
Once Qin Muxue took the driver's seat, the uncertainty that had been lingering in her heart rose up again.
Her doubts resurfaced as she realized that even the Mercedes wasn't bought by Chen Yang.
A car like this cost over seven hundred thousand, and now he claimed to have spent five million on a villa? Impossible.
Where would Chen Yang get that kind of money? Unless he’d won the lottery? Had he really won the lottery?
