Chapter 83 The Realm of Chaos (Regular Updates Resume)
It must be said that the terrifying aura of the giant ape had reached a level akin to horror. After the commotion in front of the Ye residence, the Bilister Empire’s diplomatic mission was on edge throughout their journey, fearful of provoking that monstrous being again. All their beast mounts had been confiscated by the Ye family, and who knew if the next creature they encountered might have a taste for human flesh.
In stark contrast, after scaring off the intruders, Second Brother Ye returned home in high spirits, humming a cheerful tune. With the arrival of the Bilister Empire’s delegation, the opening of the ancient ruins could not be far off. This time, perhaps Ye Feng was not the one most desperate to enter, but for him, gaining entry and increasing his cultivation would be the key to confronting Duke Bilis in battle.
For reasons unknown, both the royal family and the diplomatic mission worked with remarkable speed. Early the next morning, a palace guard arrived to inform Ye Feng to proceed to the competition venue.
After making his preparations, Ye Feng slung the monkey over his shoulder and followed the guard to the palace.
Inside the resplendent hall, hundreds of young men and women had already gathered in small groups, discussing strategies with fervor. According to the rumors, the competition would be a test of survival: hundreds of young elites would be thrown into a perilous domain, each carrying a token. If the token left their person, it would mean disqualification, and they would be immediately transported out.
Those who survived for ten days and collected the most tokens—fifty in all—would earn the right to enter the ancient ruins and seek their fortunes.
In this contest of hundreds, individual valor seemed insignificant. Clearly, those clustered together planned to form alliances for mutual support once inside the domain.
Ignoring the noisy throng, Ye Feng, with the monkey on his shoulder, chose a relatively quiet corner and quietly awaited the emperor's arrival.
“Ye Boss, we’ve discussed it,” Xiao Chong squeezed through the crowd to speak to Ye Feng in a low voice. “Once we get inside, let’s search for treasures together first. We’ll wait until the last few days before we start snatching tokens.”
Ye Feng smiled indifferently. “Don’t you know that everyone will be dropped in at random? With your luck, you might land right in a monster’s lair.”
Xiao Chong grinned slyly, digging out a palm-sized disc from his chest. “Shows what you know! We’ve got a plan—look at this.”
On the disc, six or seven red dots blinked continuously.
“This is a locator disc, crafted by an elder of the He family. There are thirteen in total, each storing a trace of his spiritual power. Anyone with a disc can clearly sense the location of the others who hold one.” Xiao Chong looked at Ye Feng with a smug, conspiratorial smile.
“The Emperor arrives!”
Just then, a shrill voice rang out over the din. Instantly, the entire hall fell silent as everyone straightened their clothes and composed themselves to appear dignified.
At the far end of the hall, a middle-aged man in golden dragon robes slowly appeared and ascended the throne. The moment he appeared, an overwhelming aura of authority swept through the hall, and no one dared meet his gaze.
“This time, those vying for entry to the ruins will be cast into the ‘Domain of Chaos.’ Only those who survive for ten days and collect the most tokens—the top fifty—will qualify to enter the ruins.” From the throne, Emperor Tang Hen’s gaze swept over the crowd as he continued, “The Domain of Chaos is filled with ferocious beasts. Do not act recklessly. When your life is in danger, cast aside your token immediately to be transported out—do not risk your life needlessly!”
“We obey, Your Majesty!” Hundreds of young warriors responded in unison.
“Good. Go now!” As his words fell, a token appeared in the hand of each person below.
Before anyone could react, the air rippled like a breeze over water, and Ye Feng felt a pulling force as he and the others were drawn into the Domain of Chaos.
It was a primeval forest, towering trees everywhere, and from the depths, the roars of monsters echoed, terrifying in their intensity.
Suddenly, the empty air throughout the forest shimmered with ripples, and one after another, the figures of young men and women were thrown into the wilderness.
Roar…
A few unlucky souls, still dazed from the teleportation, immediately found themselves surrounded by monsters. Some reacted quickly, tossing their tokens and vanishing in flashes of light as they were transported out.
Those who were slower became prey, falling swiftly under the attack of the beasts.
With a dizzying thud, Second Brother Ye crashed to the ground.
“Damn you, Xiao Chong!” he cursed, tearing grass from his hair in frustration.
Just as the portal had opened, Xiao Chong—eager to hand him the locator disc—had yanked Ye Feng’s right hand and forced the disc upon him. Off balance, Ye Feng had landed flat on his back, awkward and disgruntled.
He shook his still-spinning head and plopped down on the ground.
Chittering noises sounded as the monkey, startled, leapt onto his shoulder and began tugging frantically at his hair.
“Go play somewhere else, my head’s spinning,” Ye Feng grumbled, pulling the chattering monkey off.
But no sooner had he set the monkey down than it darted back up, squeaking in alarm.
“Could you stop—wait…”
As Ye Feng looked up, cold sweat broke out all over his body.
Before him stood five or six tigers, each nearly two meters tall, with three eyes and saber-like fangs, their blood-red gaze fixed coldly on the two unexpected intruders.
“Sixth-rank Three-Eyed Saber-Tooth Tigers… What kind of situation is this?”
