Chapter 137: The Strip-Tease Fiend (Part II)
In the dead of night, the sacred radiance was besieged by a darkness of werewolves.
Constantine was locked in a grueling struggle. Since separating from the Second Order of Knights, his troops had been surrounded by an impenetrable mass of lupine foes.
"Commander, we must link up with them!" a paladin urged anxiously. The Second Order was cutting through the werewolf ranks like a scythe through grass, while his own unit had not gained an inch. It was maddening.
"Follow behind that brat? Not a chance!" Constantine hacked the head off a werewolf. Damn it, he would never bow to that man’s commands.
Yet, despite his reluctance, the other side veered back toward them. The ground trembled as the Second Order’s cavalry charged into view. At the vanguard, Lin Lei held his longsword aloft. "Rescue those cowards!"
His eyes burned with holy light, his blade forever pointed forward. The Forest Elves and the paladins of the Victoria Second Order accelerated into a charge, a rolling torrent of steel and light that tore through the battlefield. Thousands of knights surged like a piercing arrow into the fragile werewolf formation, shattering the darkness and sweeping past the First Order in a magnificent display of raw power.
In that moment, even the paladins of the First Order were infected by the fervor of the passing legion.
"I’m going with them!"
Some paladins spurred their mounts, breaking rank to join the charge. Soon, more and more followed suit, pulling their reins to wheel around and gallop in the wake of the Second Order.
"You—all of you!" Constantine’s face twisted in rage. These men were abandoning him! How could he allow this?
"We follow!" Constantine roared, and the remaining paladins surged forward. Anger aside, he knew better than anyone that if they stayed, they would soon be swallowed by the werewolf tide.
A massive contingent of werewolf cavalry gathered at the front, clad in silver armor that glittered as they blocked the knights' path. Their female general raised her sword at the front, determined to claim Lin Lei’s head to show those wizards who had mocked her.
"You stripping maniac, let my silver-scaled cuirass test your—"
"Lone Sword Technique!"
A flash of golden light streaked across the field. The silver armor dissipated into the wind.
"..." The werewolf cavalry stared in shock, their eyes fixed on their general.
"Aaaah!" The female general’s body vanished once more.
"That person looked oddly familiar..." Lin Lei plucked three nose-bleeding werewolves from their saddles with his blade and spurred his horse forward again.
The paladins behind him were aflame with spirit. The First Order, trailing Lin Lei, felt they had never fought with such exhilaration in their entire lives. Following this thundering legion, defeat seemed impossible; they were invincible. The paladins were as electrified as if they had been injected with stimulants. Following Lin Lei’s back, they felt that as long as he was there, no force on earth could stop their charge.
"Charge!" Lin Lei led the rolling tide, swallowing the darkness of the werewolves whole.
"...one, two, three, four, two, two, three, four..."
Beside the royal wizards deep in meditation, Vivian and Reinhardt watched with wide-eyed shock as the figure at the head of the paladin legion leaped forward. He had become one with the army; his holy light was vast and unstoppable. Even the onlookers could feel the surge of bloodlust radiating from him.
The wizards, satisfied after pummeling the werewolves, returned to see the scene unfolding on the battlefield.
"How do you think the little Prince compares to the Emperor?"
"He’s even more blood-stirring!"
"Even the last Elven King in his prime was likely only at this level."
"I truly wish to see him lead the Elves onto the battlefield one day."
In the eyes of the wizards, the moment Lin Lei appeared, the tide of the war was decided. The werewolves roared in fury, struggling in vain—only to collapse like a mountain. They retreated; more and more werewolves fled the field, and the dark tide receded.
Vivian and Reinhardt could hardly believe it—was that Supreme King really only fourteen? Why was he so powerful?
"I want to be a paladin..." Reinhardt thought. If he were as strong as Lin Lei, he wouldn't need to hide in the shadows; perhaps Asha would never have been occupied by the werewolves.
Vivian clenched her fists. Witnessing the battlefield for the first time, something within her seemed to awaken. This was war—so hot-blooded, so intense, so violent!
Sylvie sat atop a maple tree, her glowing eyes scanning the fleeing werewolves. "They call themselves werewolves, but they have no sense of the beast in their bodies at all."
Holding a pen, she sketched the scene of the battlefield in her album. Though not as skilled as Lin Lei’s maid, it was at least recognizable. Sylvie was writing her report; as a watcher, she could not afford to leave out the movements of Lin Lei’s side. She wrote diligently, and in addition to the text, she took care to include the illustrations.
"Stripping Maniac—the teacher will certainly be satisfied with this content!" Sylvie muttered. She tore off the written pages, which instantly transformed into paper cranes and flew off toward the sky.
In the Wild Dream, the weather was fair and clear. The demigods and Archdruids gathered under a great tree, discussing how to rescue the sleeping Jaron. A massive shadow suddenly blocked the sun. The group looked up to see a ten-meter-long white bird descending.
"Lady Dina!" The demigods greeted her hurriedly, not daring to show the slightest disrespect to their guide. The Archdruids also bowed to the Goddess of All Birds.
"I have been to see him." The white bird landed on the grass and transformed into a beautiful female elf.
The demigods turned their eyes to her. "Lady Dina, you have seen Jaron? How is he?"
"Not optimistic." Dina frowned slightly. "His Life Seed has been bound by some special method; even I cannot summon it back."
Everyone’s heart sank. Dina had the power to summon all demigods; if even she could not call back Jaron’s Life Seed, then Jaron was truly in mortal danger. The one who had stolen the Life Seed was continuously draining its vitality with astonishing force; it would not take more than a few months to drain it dry.
"Who on earth stole Jaron’s Life Seed!" The demigods were furious. They had entrusted the Azure Dragon to Jaron’s care and did not know what had happened, but according to their investigations, it was not the dragon who had taken it. If it were him, they would have had grounds to deal with him long ago.
"Regarding that, I have already investigated it," Dina said, turning her gaze to the Archdruid Tyson. "I heard you have a disciple monitoring the Azure Dragon?"
Tyson nodded. "She is my most promising student. There have been few young druids as excellent as her lately."
"Excellent. We were negligent regarding the Azure Dragon in the past; there was too little information on him." Dina nodded with satisfaction. "Fortunately, it is not too late to make up for it..."
Mid-sentence, she looked up at the sky as several paper cranes flew down.
"Sylvie must have finished her first day of observations." Tyson stroked his beard with satisfaction. "That disciple is too diligent; I clearly told her a monthly report would suffice."
Dina reached out and took a paper crane. "Let me see what is written here."
She opened it, and a nosebleed immediately began to flow.
"This, this..."
