Chapter 67: The Might of Nie Yuntian
"Assassin! There's an assassin!"
The moment Wu Tian killed Nie Huixiang, the commotion alerted the Nie family guards, and in an instant, the entire Nie residence was thrown into chaos.
"Damn it! The Nie family truly deserves its reputation as one of the four great powers of Pingyang City—their reaction is so quick. I have to get out of here now, or I’ll never make it out alive!" Without a second thought, Wu Tian burst forth at his fastest speed in an attempt to escape.
But as he leapt onto the rooftop, a group of guards had already spotted him.
"Over there! The assassin is over there—block his way!"
Immediately, more than a dozen guards sprang onto the roof, blocking Wu Tian’s path.
"If you’re offering me experience, then I won’t hold back!" Wu Tian flashed a wicked grin, a massive iron blade appearing in his hand. He did this to disguise his identity—the Black Dragon Blade was far too conspicuous, and anyone who had seen it before would recognize him instantly.
"Attack!" the guards roared.
Wu Tian’s figure slipped like a phantom through the midst of the guards. In the blink of an eye, he had ended their lives.
Ding!
"Congratulations, player Wu Tian, for killing a level five Martial Master guard. You gain 1,000 experience. Side quest ‘Nie Family Terminator’ progress: 36 out of 200."
"Congratulations, player Wu Tian, for killing a level six Martial Master guard. You gain 1,500 experience. Side quest ‘Nie Family Terminator’ progress: 37 out of 200."
"Congratulations, player Wu Tian, for killing a level six Martial Master guard. You gain 1,500 experience. Side quest ‘Nie Family Terminator’ progress: 38 out of 200."
…
Wu Tian wiped out twelve guards in total. Though none of them provided much experience, he was drawing closer to completing his side quest.
However, more and more Nie family guards were swarming in. Standing atop the roof, Wu Tian glanced around and saw nearly a hundred guards surging his way. He could also sense the elite dark guards of the Nie family rapidly closing in. These dark guards were all Martial Spirit level experts—one or two he could handle, but if they surrounded him, escape would be impossible.
"I’ve accomplished today’s goal; there’s no need to tangle with them longer." After ending another guard’s life, Wu Tian decided not to linger. He leapt away, speeding off from the Nie residence.
"Stop! Don’t run! You think you can just waltz into the Nie family and leave as you please?"
"After him! He must be caught!"
"Archers! Shoot him down!" Along his way, guards tried to block Wu Tian. Those he could deal with quickly, he dispatched; those he couldn’t, he simply dodged, never pausing for even a moment.
"Brazen assassin! You dare to barge into the Nie residence? You think my Nie family is a place you can come and go at will?"
Suddenly, a figure landed a yard before Wu Tian, blocking his path.
Wu Tian fixed his gaze and realized—good heavens—it was the head of the Nie family, Nie Yuntian himself. A seventh-level Martial Spirit, his aura gleamed with golden light—a true boss-level opponent.
Wu Tian knew he was no match. Without a hint of hesitation, he spun and darted in the other direction.
Nie Yuntian’s expression twisted with rage. "Trying to run? You’re courting death!"
Whoosh!
A piercing sound split the air behind Wu Tian. His face tightened, and he dodged to the side without hesitation.
With a thunderous crash, the rooftop where Wu Tian had just been standing was blasted apart by a ferocious wave of sword energy. If he hadn’t dodged in time, there would have been nothing left of him.
"Shit! That was close. A seventh-level Martial Spirit really is terrifying—I was nearly killed," Wu Tian muttered to himself, cold sweat beading his brow.
At that moment, a flash of cold light cut through the air. Nie Yuntian’s sword was already at Wu Tian’s face.
In an instant, their blades clashed several times. Nie Yuntian’s overpowering energy forced Wu Tian back, sliding him more than ten meters along the rooftop before he could stop himself.
"Damn it! I can’t use the Black Dragon Blade now—it would reveal my identity. If I had it in hand, my strength would multiply," Wu Tian thought silently, but outwardly his expression remained calm.
"Who are you? Why did you infiltrate my residence? Speak honestly, or I’ll make you wish for death!" Clearly, Nie Yuntian didn’t yet know Wu Tian had killed Nie Huixiang; otherwise, he would already have attacked in a blind fury instead of wasting words.
"It’s nothing, really. I just lost my way in life and happened to wander into the Nie residence. But I’m leaving now," Wu Tian answered with a slight smile.
"Hmph! If you won’t speak, I’ll just beat you half to death and see if you talk then!" Nie Yuntian shook his precious sword, vanishing in a flash. He reappeared instantly before Wu Tian.
Wu Tian was startled by the incredible speed—he could barely make out Nie Yuntian’s movements.
Clang! Clang! Clang!
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Thankfully, Wu Tian had both Windchaser Boots and the Night Cloak, two earth-grade items that boosted his speed, allowing him to barely fend off Nie Yuntian’s ferocious attacks. The buildings beneath them, however, were not so lucky—torn apart by the wild energies unleashed by the two fighters, leaving a path of devastation in their wake.
With a sudden crash, Nie Yuntian kicked Wu Tian down to the ground, smashing a giant crater where he landed and instantly draining a quarter of his health.
"Hmph! With such paltry skill, you dare to invade my residence? You’re courting death! Your end is at hand." Nie Yuntian stood coldly atop the roof, looking down at Wu Tian.
"Master! Master, something terrible has happened! Young Master Huixiang has been killed! The assassin murdered him!" At this moment, a guard shouted desperately.
"What? What did you say? Huixiang has been killed?" Nie Yuntian’s face turned ashen, disbelief in his eyes.
"Master, Young Master Huixiang was murdered—the assassin broke through the defense formation and killed him!"
"Ah! You killed my son! I’ll kill you!" Nie Yuntian went mad with rage, roaring furiously. But when he looked again, Wu Tian had vanished.
Wu Tian had seized that fleeting moment of distraction to activate the Windchaser Boots’ "Ride the Wind" ability, along with the Night Cloak’s "Night Concealment," disappearing into the darkness and tripling his speed. He became nothing but a fleeting shadow in the night.
"What?" Nie Yuntian’s face twisted as he gave chase at full speed. Though Wu Tian had vanished, a faint trace of his presence remained. "You killed my son and still want to escape? I will never let you go!"
But no matter how furious Nie Yuntian was, it was useless—Wu Tian was simply too fast. Not even a seventh-level Martial Spirit could keep up.
"Die!" Realizing he couldn’t catch up, Nie Yuntian hurled a wave of sword energy furiously in Wu Tian’s direction.
Boom! The sword energy grazed Wu Tian’s shoulder, erupting in a violent explosion upon impact with the ground.
Wu Tian staggered, gritting his teeth against the searing pain in his shoulder but not daring to pause for an instant. With the duration of his skills limited, he had to escape the Nie residence before their effects wore off.
"Find him! Search everywhere! Comb the entire city—tear Pingyang City apart if you have to, but bring me that bastard!" As Wu Tian escaped the Nie residence, the furious roar of Nie Yuntian echoed behind him, resounding through the entire estate.
