Chapter 114: The Fan
Brothers, don’t forget to vote for Sanjiang!
Before Zhang Wei even had a chance to show the client any properties, he was invited to dinner. It was his first time experiencing such a situation—like a young lady getting married for the first time. Yet Zhang Wei was realistic enough not to indulge in vanity, thinking the invitation was a special treat. It was more likely that the timing just happened to coincide with the meal.
A major celebrity waiting until he arrived before serving the dishes was already quite a compliment to Zhang Wei. Of course, much of this was thanks to Aben. Though they had only met once, Zhang Wei and Aben hit it off immediately.
This didn’t mean Aben had any ill intentions toward Zhang Wei; rather, due to his personality, Aben was eccentric and blunt, often speaking without restraint and easily offending others.
Yet, he was also easily influenced, a classic case of high intelligence but low emotional intelligence. A few words of praise or recognition of his professional skills would delight him immensely. For Zhang Wei, who possessed mind-reading abilities, this was merely a small effort.
Human interactions can be so simple sometimes, and first impressions are crucial. Aben was a professional stylist who despised seeing people with poor appearances. Most real estate agents earned little, making it impossible for them to afford expensive clothes or accessories.
That day, Aben was cruising in his sports car, not looking for the most famous agency but for salespeople with tasteful attire. Naturally, Zhang Wei, flush with recent earnings and decked out in designer brands, caught his eye immediately.
Aben and Zhang Wei had contrasting personalities. Aben was emotional and flamboyant; if something displeased him, he would speak candidly without hesitation, though his heart was generally good.
Zhang Wei was rational and ruthless. If displeased, he would not show it overtly; he might even smile at you. But if given the chance for revenge, he would deliver a fatal blow.
Their personalities had pros and cons, standing at opposite ends like ice and fire. Yet human beings often complement each other this way. Similar personalities tend to breed friction and barriers, while opposites can foster tolerance.
Zhang Wei’s guess was not far off—Chen Sixuan had just finished work. So busy that she hadn’t even eaten lunch, she wanted to eat first before viewing the house but felt awkward leaving Zhang Wei waiting alone. Out of politeness, she invited him to dine together.
“Miss Chen, I heard you’re planning a concert soon. Your work must be very busy lately,” Zhang Wei said to bridge the gap, deliberately avoiding talk about the property and instead showing concern for her career.
Generally, agents rarely inquire about clients’ personal lives, focusing mostly on property discussions to avoid seeming unprofessional or offending clients. But Chen Sixuan was no ordinary client.
For ordinary people, life revolves around basic needs, and real estate is a major concern. Agents discussing properties with them are met with interest and engagement. Yet from what Zhang Wei learned through Aben and his own observations, Chen Sixuan was not particularly invested in renting a place.
Those aspiring to become major stars often share two traits: strong vanity and strong ambition. As a public figure whose life and career were exposed to the public eye, Zhang Wei’s choice to discuss her upcoming concert struck a chord with her.
“How did you know I was planning a concert? I don’t think our company has started widespread promotion yet,” Chen Sixuan blinked her lively eyes and lifted her delicate cheek, clearly intrigued.
“I’m your loyal fan. I’ve been following you closely,” Zhang Wei replied with a smile.
“Ha! Are all agents like you? Sweet-talking like you’ve smeared honey in your mouth, just like my own manager. But hearing that you’re a fan makes me genuinely happy,” Chen Sixuan giggled.
Chen Sixuan didn’t fully believe Zhang Wei. Though unfamiliar with real estate agents, she knew well the nature of her own manager, who often talked nonsense with eyes wide open.
“Oh, come on, Xiao Xuan, how can you say that? Xiao Wei is a good guy. How can you lump him together with that terrible woman, Dong Yan?” Aben pouted, his charming eyes tinged with a hint of grievance as he looked at Chen Sixuan.
Though Zhang Wei admired Chen Sixuan’s beauty, he was merely appreciating her appearance. Strictly speaking, he wasn’t her fan and lacked the time to be a true groupie. He had only researched some information about her after learning she was his client.
But since the words were out, Zhang Wei naturally wanted to make a good impression to gain her trust. If she believed he was truly a fan, the deal would be easier to close.
“Miss Chen, I’m not making idle flattery—I really am your loyal fan,” Zhang Wei said earnestly.
“Really? Do you know everything about me then?” Chen Sixuan probed.
When Zhang Wei first claimed to be a fan, Chen Sixuan thought he was just flattering her and didn’t pay much attention. But when he repeated his claim, she couldn’t simply dismiss it.
“Of course. I’ve been following you since your debut. I know every event very clearly,” Zhang Wei said, raising his eyebrows and forcing himself to sound confident.
“Alright, then I’ll ask you a few little questions about me, okay?” Chen Sixuan fluttered her long lashes, her large, sparkling eyes alluring.
Few who rise to fame in showbiz are fools. Chen Sixuan wouldn’t easily believe Zhang Wei’s words. She wasn’t some naive girl who could be fooled with a few sweet words.
“It’s a great honor to be questioned by my idol in person. If other fans knew, they’d be green with envy,” Zhang Wei said with a somewhat stiff smile. Even he felt the words sounded insincere, but in sales, if you can’t warm up to the client, you won’t close even one deal out of ten.
“Then I’m going to ask,” Chen Sixuan said playfully, her beautiful eyes twinkling.
Chen Sixuan was clever and knew that Zhang Wei’s confidence meant either he was truly her fan or had studied her profile thoroughly beforehand. Asking questions easily found online wouldn’t get her anywhere.
“Mr. Zhang, do you remember when I last held a fan meeting in the capital?” Chen Sixuan’s tone was gentle, like friends playing a quiz game, without any hint of interrogation, which made it impossible to feel displeased—an advantage of her beauty and charm.
Though Zhang Wei had browsed information online, he couldn’t remember every detail, especially the date of her last fan meeting. He had to use his mind-reading ability to probe her thoughts.
“My last fan meeting was on October 3rd last year. That information only circulated among fans and wasn’t publicized by the media. It’s been so long that anyone who knows the exact date must be a loyal fan,” Chen Sixuan thought, unaware her thoughts were being read.
“Xiao Wei, you must answer correctly, okay? I believe you wouldn’t lie. I trust you wouldn’t deceive Xiao Xuan or me,” Aben said earnestly, clutching his chest and watching the exchange anxiously. If Zhang Wei lied, Aben’s impression of him would sour.
“I did attend last year’s fan meeting, but it was so long ago I don’t quite remember the exact date,” Zhang Wei said after a moment’s thought, avoiding a direct answer.
“It’s true, it’s been a long time. Even I can’t recall clearly. Mr. Zhang, it’s normal you can’t remember,” Chen Sixuan said politely, though her expression cooled slightly, sensing Zhang Wei’s evasion.
“Could it be that Xiao Wei really doesn’t remember, or was he lying just now? He’s not really Xiao Xuan’s fan but only said so to rent out the house?” Aben, despite his quirks, was no fool. Doubt flickered in his eyes, and disappointment clouded his face.
Just as the atmosphere grew awkward, Zhang Wei tapped his forehead, as if suddenly recalling something. “Ah, I remember now. The last fan meeting was during the National Day holidays. I was working at the store and had to switch shifts with a colleague to have the time to attend.”
