Chapter 125: Health Is What Matters

Ever since "Walking With You," Chen Fang and Lin Yang had become regulars on numerous variety shows. They were well-versed in the rhythm of recording. They had long since mastered the art of how to perform to maximize the show's impact while ensuring the audience would remember them vividly.

As the show began, Chen Fang wasted no time in drawing all eyes to herself with just a few sentences. She teased Lin Yang about his terrible singing voice, poking fun at herself while simultaneously throwing shade at him. Yet, it left everyone with a knowing smile. Nobody felt that Chen Fang was truly disparaging Lin Yang; rather, it felt like her unique way of showing affection. Only a relationship that had reached a certain level of intimacy would allow for such banter.

"Lin Yang, do you want to know what Chen Fang said about you?" He Jun asked, smiling at Lin Yang, who was standing to the side.

Lin Yang nodded. He had an instinctive feeling that what Chen Fang had just said concerned him, and likely wasn't anything flattering. Unfortunately, he hadn't been able to hear it.

"She said that you sing beautifully and could easily compete with the three singers next to you. She even suggested you give us a demonstration right now to prove that besides acting, you also have a talent for singing," He Jun told him.

While the female guests couldn't hear what the male guests were saying, the host's words were clear to everyone. Lin Yang was left stunned. Zhang Le and the other two male guests were also taken aback. The other two looked at Lin Yang with surprise, while Zhang Le, knowing exactly how Lin Yang sang, held back his laughter, wearing an expression of someone ready to enjoy the show.

"Some people have 'daddy issues,' but she's got 'husband issues'!" Lin Yang’s face darkened, and he rolled his eyes.

"Pfft!" Everyone burst into laughter. It was certain that once this episode aired, the term "husband-pitting" would become as popular on the internet as the well-known phrase "daddy-pitting."

"I'm pitting you because you're my husband, so you'll just have to endure it!" He Jun joked.

"Master He, that's not fair. Can we still play nicely?" Chen Fang teased, laughing.

"Alright, let's stop the jokes so we can have some fun," He Jun laughed. "Back to business. First, let's give a round of applause to our four pairs of guests!"

"This show is called 'Battle for Her,' and the program itself involves challenging tasks. I finally understand why the production team refused to disclose the details of these challenges to any of the guests."

"Why is that?" Chen Fang asked, while the other two female guests looked on with curiosity, filled with anticipation.

Yang Xin'er also looked over, though without the same level of concern. Her face wore a smile that radiated confidence, as if to say that no matter what the challenge was, it wouldn't be an issue. This was a testament to her absolute trust in Zhang Le.

"Because if we had revealed them, you probably wouldn't have come," He Jun said with a smile.

"No way!"
"Is that for real?"

"So, do you trust your husbands or boyfriends?" He Jun asked. "Let's start with Xin'er. Do you trust Zhang Le?"

"If I can't trust a genius and a top scholar, who else in this world can I trust?" Yang Xin'er replied with a smile.

"It seems Zhang Le is your whole world," He Jun chuckled.

"Scholar Zhang" and "Genius Zhang" were Zhang Le's well-known nicknames. By saying this, Yang Xin'er was clearly showing off her boyfriend. *My boyfriend is a top scholar and a genius; how can you compare to him?* However, He Jun’s lighthearted remark helped defuse this display, easing the pressure on the other three couples. It was impossible for the other guests to feel no pressure when facing Zhang Le and Yang Xin'er. If the gap in strength were too obvious, the show would lose its appeal; competitions are only exciting when they are evenly matched.

"What about you, Chen Fang? Based on what you said earlier, you don't seem to have much confidence in Lin Yang?" He Jun turned to Chen Fang with a smile.

"I thought it was going to be about singing! From what you just said, it's clear these challenges won't involve singing, so I’ve regained a lot of confidence," Chen Fang laughed.

He Jun asked the other two female guests and then smiled: "It seems all four of you have confidence in your partners. Though, apart from Xin'er, the confidence of you three feels a bit shaky. This has nothing to do with singing or performing, so I hope that after you see the overall rules, you'll be feeling much more secure."

As Zhang Le looked over the rules, his thoughts drifted to the version of this variety show he had watched in his previous life. He hadn't expected the rules to be so similar; the only difference was that the original show had two hosts, whereas this one only had one. Of course, the other host from his past life—the one who would have sat in He Jun's chair—was known as the "Tactical Director."

Recalling that show, one couldn't help but think of the sharp, witty exchanges between the two hosts whenever they met. One host would say the studio felt like home, welcoming the other as a guest and offering him "lychees"—a fruit that resembled the TV station's logo—as a treat. The Tactical Director, who was the lead host of a rival station, would reply with sharp wit, saying he had been feeling "inflamed" lately and preferred "mangoes," asking if the other had any. As it happened, the logo of the station he worked for looked just like a mango, and the station was often referred to as "Mango TV."

The wit in their banter was obvious. Since this show only had one host, who also happened to be the producer, that kind of situation wouldn't arise here.

"Alright, let's start our first game today. But before we do, let's have a little chat. I’d like to ask a question that might be a bit awkward: do your boyfriends or husbands have any specific requirements regarding your weight or body shape?"

"This game isn't going to involve carrying or holding someone, is it?" Lin Yang asked.

"It's very likely!" Zhang Le smiled.

"Let's ask Xin'er first. How does Zhang Le feel about this?" He Jun asked, turning to Yang Xin'er.

"Him? He doesn't have any requirements. Fat or thin, it doesn't matter. As long as I'm healthy, that's what matters," Yang Xin'er replied after a moment's thought, smiling.

"So if you're fat or thin, you're not healthy? It sounds like your Zhang Le is quite strict, demanding a standard body shape. It's a good thing you've always maintained your figure," Chen Fang teased.

Everyone laughed. It was clear that Yang Xin'er didn't mean it that way at all; she was obviously saying that Zhang Le didn't care about her weight, only her well-being.

"Not at all!" Yang Xin'er smiled, looking at Chen Fang. "And Brother Lin Yang is quite strict with you too, isn't he, Sister Chen?"

"If he were that strict with me, I wouldn't have ended up this chubby," Chen Fang laughed.

"Better to be chubby than too thin!" Yang Xin'er smiled. "That's Brother Lin Yang's requirement for you!"

"Fat or thin isn't important; health is what matters!" He Jun said with a smile, then turned to the other two female guests. Although their fame wasn't on par with Yang Xin'er or Chen Fang, they couldn't be treated as mere bystanders. If they weren't included, they would lack presence, which wouldn't be good for the show's overall effect.
