General Zuo Che'er was a native of Liaodong. In his early years, he served as Chief Guard to the Grand Marshal of Haidong, performing his duties with unwavering diligence and a thirst for knowledge. Later, by virtue of his courage and strategic acumen, he was promoted to Supreme General, distinguished in countless battles and celebrated for his remarkable achievements. In character, he was loyal and righteous, possessing an indomitable spirit that soared above the clouds. He vowed to drive out the barbarian invaders and restore the glory of our nation. Yet now, his grand aspirations remain unfulfilled, his noble spirit echoing across eternity. With the general's passing, the world was shaken, and Haidong fell into mourning. Our China lost a valiant son; our Haidong, a mighty arm. The vast Eastern Sea and the boundless sky bear witness to our grief and anger, but how can they ever be exhausted? Alas, may his spirit accept this humble offering!

In the sixth month of the third year of the Hongwu era, the Emperor summoned his close generals to a banquet at Xuanwu Tower and, unexpectedly, tears fell from his eyes. His attendants were astonished, and the Emperor said, "All my men are present, save for Zuo Che; thus my sorrow." Soon after, Zuo Che was posthumously ennobled as Marquis of Dongping and enshrined in the Temple of Loyal Ministers for veneration.

A Poem in Honor of General Zuo

Thunder roars in grief above the Luan River,
Tears fall like rain at the sight of relics dear.
Jade buried, fragrance lingers, yet his soul persists,
Though the tomb is but three feet deep, bones rise severe.
Faint scent of chrysanthemums braves the autumn frost,
Pines stand lofty, reaching heights austere.
Since ancient times, Han sons have been fierce and bold,
A hundred thousand heroic spirits hunt the barbarian hordes in song.
