That strange feeling was difficult to pinpoint exactly—just a tingling, a sensation as if something inside her was about to spill out. She was truly overwhelmed with shyness, instinctively covering her face and peering at the young master through the gaps between her fingers.

Night had fallen, and within the cave dwelling, a brazier crackled fiercely, its flames lighting up the entire space with a warm glow. The flickering fire cast the young master’s face into sharp relief, but now his eyes no longer burned with that fiery intensity. Instead, they were cold and unfocused, as if he was deeply engrossed in something unseen.

Feeling that gaze, Bai Zhi felt a sudden chill. It seemed as though her very soul was being scrutinized by him. Piecing together his earlier words, she realized he was likely probing her body, searching for the talisman mark that the old witch Hu San might have placed within her.

Bai Zhi harbored some gratitude toward Hu San, for she had been the one who took her in. Yet this time, Hu San had gone too far—she had casually sent Sister Ying Ning away, completely abandoning her. As for Ying Ning’s whereabouts, the young master had not yet spoken, but given his nature, it was likely he had already rescued her.

Having become a commander of a mountain stronghold, overseeing countless subordinates, Bai Zhi was no longer the naive girl she once was. She understood Hu San’s intentions in sending her and Ying Ning away—it was for a political marriage alliance, the importance of which was self-evident. Still, as the young master once said, “The rear end decides the head.” Understanding it was one thing; acceptance was another.

After a moment, Liu Ping finally finished examining Bai Zhi’s body and breathed a genuine sigh of relief. There was no talisman mark implanted. If there had been, it would have been a great trouble to resolve—better that it wasn’t there.

“Young master?”

“No talisman,” Liu Ping smiled, his gaze still fixed on Bai Zhi’s somewhat immature body, not yet fully grown.

“Am I beautiful?” Bai Zhi asked, unashamed, smiling sweetly at him.

“Very beautiful.” His admiration was sincere. Though the body was not fully matured, it already displayed an enchanting, almost breathtaking elegance that stirred the heart.

“Hehe.” Hearing the praise, Bai Zhi’s smile blossomed. “By the way, what about Sister Ying Ning? You haven’t told me yet.”

Liu Ping nodded. “Put your clothes on first, then I’ll tell you.”

Bai Zhi nodded and began dressing slowly. During this time, Liu Ping recounted his deeds. Though she knew he was powerful and certain he would rescue Ying Ning, she was still shocked to learn that the young master had completely wiped out the entire family of that demon commander.

It was utterly ruthless. She was almost speechless, and after a moment said, “Young master, you’re becoming more and more formidable. You actually killed a demon commander.”

“Just lucky. It was very dangerous at the time…” Liu Ping shook his head.

Bai Zhi understood this well. She reached out to undo Liu Ping’s clothes, startling him. “What are you doing?”

“Of course to check your wounds…” Bai Zhi said without looking up. “Really reckless. If anything had happened to you…”

Her voice grew softer and more somber as she spoke. The shock at his strength gave way to fear; if something had gone wrong, the consequences would have been unimaginable.

Soon, Liu Ping’s clothes were undone. Bai Zhi looked at the scars on his abdomen, remnants of old wounds, and her heart ached.

Gently, she touched the wounds, then leaned closer and slowly began to lick the scars on Liu Ping’s body.

The cool, smooth tongue traced over the freshly healing wounds, producing a strange, tingling sensation filled with waves of pleasure. Liu Ping’s body stiffened but did not move, simply watching Bai Zhi’s actions without resistance, sensing the wounds itched.

Before long, the faint scars began to fade under Bai Zhi’s licking, blending seamlessly with the surrounding skin. She was surprised—her licking had such an incredible healing effect?

Then Bai Zhi moved behind Liu Ping, carefully licking the wounds on his back as well, restoring them completely.

“You must be more careful from now on, young master.” After tending to his wounds, Bai Zhi, like a devoted little wife, tidied his clothes. It wasn’t long before she had everything in order.

Liu Ping smiled warmly, pulling her into his embrace tenderly. “You really are my little treasure.”

“Mm,” Bai Zhi responded obediently, staying quietly in his arms.

“By the way, didn’t your old witch Hu San want me to meet her? Let’s take this chance to go see her.”

“All right.” Bai Zhi agreed promptly but then hesitated, a hint of worry in her voice. “Young master, please don’t kill old witch…”

“I know my limits.” Liu Ping stroked Bai Zhi’s smooth back, smiling faintly. “I won’t create unnecessary karmic debt unless absolutely necessary—otherwise, surviving the Heavenly Tribulation would be impossible.”

“Sir, we’ve arrived at the Cangmang Mountains.” A driver with a squirrel’s head called back respectfully from atop a ghost-fire carriage.

This vast, primitive forest lay east of Yangzhou, near the sea. Spanning three thousand miles, it was an endless stretch of mountains and wilderness, sparsely inhabited and known as a demon’s paradise.

Within this realm, demons had formed their own structured society, modeled somewhat after humans, with distinct social strata. Various demons played different roles, composing a unique societal hierarchy.

The ghost-fire carriage was pulled by a ghost-fire horse, its coat as black as ink, blending seamlessly into the night. Its four hooves each trod upon a blue, ethereal flame, allowing it to seemingly walk on air. The carriage itself was sealed with special formations, ensuring it followed the horse smoothly.

The fare was exorbitant—ten spirit stones, roughly equivalent to a hundred taels of silver in human society, a price few demon generals could afford, let alone pay for such luxury.

This was why the squirrel-headed driver showed Liu Ping, a human, such deference.

Spirit stones were highly concentrated crystallizations of spiritual energy, precious beyond measure. Liu Ping had obtained his stones from the Dragon King’s body…

As the driver finished speaking, the carriage halted. The ghost-fire horse pawed restlessly at the earth, its hooves aflame but cold to the touch. In truth, the flames were not fire in the conventional sense.

As the carriage stopped, the curtain was thrown aside. A youth in a blue robe stepped out, carrying a young beauty. They disappeared into the forest after tossing the fare behind.

The driver opened his mouth to call after them, hoping to secure more business, but seeing they were gone, he sighed regretfully. Every customer was so precious.

The ghost-fire horse seemed to sense the driver’s regret, smirking and sneering, “Fool!”

The squirrel driver snapped back, “You dare scold me? We nearly took the wrong route! No wonder I have no business!”

Their bickering was beyond Liu Ping’s hearing. He and Bai Zhi moved swiftly through the forest, their steps seeming slow but each stride covering several yards.

By now, Bai Zhi had broken through to demon general rank. Sadly, her body had not yet matured further, still showing traces of youth. This was awkward, but she had mastered a special innate skill that soothed her heartache.

Her innate skill allowed her to heal wounds using saliva or blood—just as she had done for Liu Ping’s injuries moments before.

Bai Zhi’s talent was exceptional. Though newly promoted, her true strength neared that of a half-step demon commander, thanks not only to the three spells she had learned but also her own innate power.

Liu Ping was even more formidable. Though still at the second stage of human immortality, he could easily overwhelm most earth immortals and demon commanders.

Together, they traveled swiftly, as if invisible in the wilderness, soon arriving at the Cangmang Cave Dwelling in the Cangmang Mountains.

This was the stronghold of old witch Hu San.

The cave was vast and heavily fortified, guarded by countless demons and traps. Even Liu Ping had to move silently to slip inside, his true realm still only that of a second-stage human immortal.

But with Bai Zhi accompanying him, things were different. Her eyes shimmered faintly with crystalline light, able to see through illusions and detect traps, enabling them to enter unnoticed. This was Bai Zhi’s innate skill—the Celestial Mystic Eye.

Inside a room, a solitary lamp flickered, struggling to illuminate the space. An old woman with a face full of wrinkles murmured softly, seemingly discussing matters with someone unseen.

One could faintly hear talk of important affairs.

“The matter of the Hui family… has it been investigated?”

“Yes. Through various inquiries, we’ve pieced together the events as best as possible.”

“Bring me the intelligence.”

“Yes, ma’am.”

Reading the reports, old witch Hu San’s expression darkened. Coldly, she said, “That human cultivator is truly overbearing. He outright kidnapped Ying Ning and slaughtered every last member of the Hui family. This is utterly unreasonable.”

“Indeed.” A shifty-eyed middle-aged man spoke lowly, his face twisted with grief and hatred. “My uncle treated me well. I never expected such calamity. That Liu Ping, relying on his cultivation, rampages without restraint, killing innocents and stealing wives. Truly mad—he must die!”
