Chapter Thirteen: She Must Be an Angel
“She’s been unconscious the whole time—we haven’t had a chance to ask her anything yet!”
“It’s really strange. That girl has remained in a deep coma, and the doctors tried everything but couldn’t wake her.”
“But as soon as those people from National Security arrived, she woke up almost immediately and was taken away by them.”
“I keep feeling that those people aren’t really from National Security, but their credentials were flawless.”
“The Director from the Chongyu City Bureau called our Director personally to verify their identities, and two of them stayed behind—it looks like they plan to be stationed here permanently.”
Li Yunfei was silent for a while, drinking half his beer before he spoke, “Yingzi, do you think... could this be related to those recent supernatural occurrences?”
Zhang Ziying nodded, “Most likely it’s connected.”
After speaking, she seemed inexplicably agitated, ruffling her hair, then added, “I don’t know why, but lately I keep feeling like my life is about to go sideways.”
“Do you think those videos are real? Is it possible there really are people with supernatural abilities and martial arts that let them leap like that—like the Wudang Cloud Ladder, stepping on one foot with the other?”
Li Yunfei smiled bitterly to himself. I don’t know if your life will go astray, but mine already has.
“That’s why I want to get out and travel! The idea of going to Wudang Mountain is just to see if these things are real.”
Zhang Ziying looked at Li Yunfei with concern, “Given the situation, maybe you shouldn’t go. I have this feeling the world is becoming dangerous; who knows, maybe one day I’ll meet a criminal who can’t be killed by bullets.”
Li Yunfei interjected, “If you really did meet someone like that, what would you do?”
Zhang Ziying was taken aback, a hint of bewilderment in her eyes. “You’re right! If I really encountered such a person, what would I do?”
Li Yunfei said, “So, overthinking is pointless. Since we can’t change the world, we just have to adapt.”
“If there really are those legendary things in the world, then we should approach them, understand them, learn from them, and become stronger ourselves.”
“In any era, any environment, as long as we are strong, there’s nothing to fear, isn’t that true?”
After listening to Li Yunfei, Zhang Ziying gave a bitter smile, “That’s certainly true.”
“I just can’t figure out why none of this ever appeared in the past, always only in people’s imagination, and now suddenly it’s all coming to light this year.”
Li Yunfei shrugged, “Who knows! Just be careful when you’re handling cases from now on.”
“I will.” Zhang Ziying glanced at her watch, “It’s about time—I need to head to work. Whenever you decide to leave, let me know.”
“Sure, though I want to travel, it won’t be right away. Maybe after some time.”
Zhang Ziying got up and left, and Li Yunfei watched her departing figure, momentarily lost in thought.
Going to Wudang Mountain was just an excuse; he was definitely planning to leave for a while.
If he stayed home, the source of his formidable abilities would be unexplainable.
The Killing God System was his greatest secret, one he would take to his grave.
After going away for a while, and having been somewhere nobody could identify, the origin of his abilities could be freely fabricated.
As long as he could weave a convincing story and make thorough preparations, there would be no problems.
As for those National Security agents who didn’t seem like National Security, they were likely a secret organization formed by the state, made up of people with extraordinary powers.
Those who had previously displayed supernatural abilities and then disappeared were probably recruited by them.
After all, the awakened ones weren’t criminals; there was no reason for the state to target them without cause.
Of course, those who committed crimes using supernatural powers were another matter.
So even if he was discovered by the authorities one day, as someone possessing supernatural powers, there was no need to be afraid.
At worst, he’d serve his country. As a former soldier, he was prepared for that.
Still, if he could keep his freedom, he’d prefer to stay hidden; when hiding was no longer possible, he’d reconsider.
Returning to his room, he checked the time: it was just past one in the afternoon, plenty of time for another dungeon run.
But after that battle with the Ant Queen, since he hadn’t leveled up, he felt physically and mentally exhausted.
So, he decided to eat something and take a nap.
...
At three in the afternoon, Li Yunfei entered the Ant Nest dungeon again, this time choosing the level 2 instance.
The level 2 ant monsters were noticeably bigger, with increased strength and speed, but with his powerful Ant Armor set, he could handle them easily.
His right hand held the Corrosive Ant Leg Blade, and his left the regular Ant Leg Blade.
Though the corrosive toxins of the Corrosive Ant Leg Blade didn’t affect the ants, its raw power was greater than the standard blade, making it easier to cut through the ants.
Now that Li Yunfei had mastered the tricks of farming the Ant Nest dungeon, he finished much faster than he had that morning.
Both he and the little fox quickly leveled up to four, and this time he allocated all attribute points to Constitution.
Ordinary worker ants and soldier ants no longer posed any threat; his strength and agility were more than sufficient, even surplus.
But when fighting the Ant Queen earlier, he’d felt his stamina lagging, so this time he boosted his Constitution.
His attributes became: Strength 20 (10), Agility 16 (8), Constitution 20 (10), Energy 11 (7).
Now, his Strength, Agility, and Constitution were each double that of an average person.
What surprised him was that his Energy had inexplicably increased by one point.
After consulting the system help, he realized that attribute points could not only be gained through allocation, but also improved by training oneself.
He’d spent several hours that morning in intense combat, his mind constantly taut and intensely focused—a workout for his Energy.
Fighting on the edge of life and death was far more mentally taxing than high-intensity training and much more tempering.
Since he was running a level 2 dungeon at level 4, he earned much less experience.
Killing all the ants and defeating the Ant Queen only barely pushed him to level 5.
He allocated his points as before: three to Strength, two to Agility.
His guess was correct—no matter the boss’s level, the first kill always triggered a massive loot drop.
He obtained a second set of powerful Ant Armor and a second Corrosive Ant Leg Blade, plus another ten packs of Ant Queen Powder.
Besides that, he collected 38.6 yuan in coins, five full sets and three pieces of Ant Armor, eight Ant Leg Blades, and fifty-five packs of Ant Powder from the regular monsters.
Altogether, he now possessed nine full sets and five pieces of Ant Armor, fourteen Ant Leg Blades, and ninety-five packs of Ant Powder.
The only difference between dungeon levels was the monsters’ size and physical power; their loot material was identical.
Since he already had top-tier gear from the Ant Queen, he sold all the obsolete items to the system, receiving 59,650 yuan.
Seeing the income, Li Yunfei drew in a sharp breath.
This was just a single day’s earnings!
Looking at his system inventory, where he’d previously stored just over three thousand yuan, the amount now read: 63,265.7.
Sixty thousand a day—this was outrageous!
Compared to dungeon farming, his several million in savings was nothing—it would take just two months to earn back.
Of course, he was risking his life, but weren’t mercenaries doing the same?
Mercenaries earning at this level were rare even worldwide.
The key was, he was making money while growing stronger—where else could you find such a good deal?
Li Yunfei repented deeply; he had once suspected the system was the work of an evil god.
That was a terrible insult to the creator of the Killing God System—she must be a gentle, kind angelic sister.
It had to be so.
