Chapter Ninety: A Tycoon’s Fury
Li Yunfei did not let his guard down either. He drew out the Bloodthirsty Flying Sword and held it in his hand, then with a sweep of his arm he tossed out two tables and stacked them before the ritual altar. With a leap he sprang atop them, concentrating in wary readiness.
If the Skeleton Warriors and the little fox could not hold back the great horde of green walking corpses, he could still step in and fill the gaps.
Though the Bloodthirsty Flying Sword consumed spiritual power at a terrifying rate, he could still unleash it at full strength for a minute or two without issue.
At present, the limit of his sword flight was half a quarter-hour, or a little over seven minutes. In battle, if he fought with his sword at full power, he could sustain that output for roughly two minutes and some change.
But against the green walking corpses, he did not need to maintain full output the entire time. He only needed to knock back any stragglers that broke through the sea of thunder and slipped past the attacks of the Skeleton Warriors and the little fox, sending them back into the thunderous tide.
Before he ground them to death in the sea of lightning, his spiritual power would by no means be exhausted.
The final result greatly satisfied Li Yunfei. In the end, it never came to him making a move; not even the little fox got the chance to act.
The instant the first green walking corpse sprang from the sea of thunder, before its feet had even touched the ground, a dark golden blade aura viciously cleaved across its chest at an angle.
With a dull thud, a wound two inches deep was carved into the green corpse's chest.
No blood flowed out. Only that eerie green corpse qi gushed forth from the wound, even more violently and thickly than when it had been under the sea of thunder's relentless assault.
And that blade aura did not merely injure the corpse; its tremendous impact also sent the body flying backward.
It flew a full twenty or thirty meters before crashing back into the sea of thunder.
Swish, swish, swish...
Thud, thud, thud...
The thirteen Skeleton Warriors unleashed blade aura after blade aura without pause. They knew martial arts, and their use of the great saber was naturally far more fluent than Li Yunfei's.
The blade aura came one after another, continuous and unbroken. They even knew how to predict the zombies' movement, calculating the timing in advance when striking, so that their accuracy was absurdly high.
The green walking corpses that burst from the sea of thunder were all sent flying back into it, each and every one wounded, the leakage of corpse qi growing even faster.
By then, the black walking corpses and skeleton monsters had also begun to die in succession.
Once their corpse qi was fully depleted, the black walking corpses could no longer resist the thunderbolts. In the blink of an eye, they turned into charred husks and collapsed to the ground, breaking apart into scattered fragments.
When the skeleton monsters ran out of soul power, the soul fire in their eyes went out, their bones rapidly carbonized, and in the end, under the violent impact of the thunder's power, they crumbled into bone ash.
The vengeful ghosts and evil spirits naturally did not escape the fate of soul dispersal either. Being incorporeal spirits, and burdened as they were with resentment and baleful qi, they were even more thoroughly restrained by the awe-inspiring might of thunder and lightning.
Within the thunder, they could not even move.
Though their cultivation was greater than that of the black walking corpses and skeleton monsters, they did not hold out for long before fading away one after another.
Only the green walking corpses remained in the field, lingering on their last breath.
The successive deaths of the black walking corpses, skeleton monsters, vengeful ghosts, and evil spirits naturally brought Li Yunfei and his companions a great amount of experience.
Li Yunfei and the little fox's experience bars surged upward, while the Skeleton Warriors leveled up by leaps and bounds.
After being knocked back into the sea of thunder three times, the green walking corpses finally reached their limit as well, and each of them turned into charcoal within the thunderous tide.
Li Yunfei and the little fox both reached level 37, while the Skeleton Warriors rose another five levels, reaching 23.
The heavenly thunder weakened once more, and Li Yunfei without the slightest hesitation flung another thousand Thunder Talismans into it.
The final boss of this instance was about to reveal itself.
If the monsters in the instance had self-awareness, one could only wonder what they would think upon emerging to discover that they were already trapped in a sea of thunder.
Rumble...
Li Yunfei felt the earth beneath his feet tremble faintly. At first he froze, but then instead he let out a sigh of relief.
Since the commotion was so great, it could not be a ghostly evil spirit or a rakshasa.
Though evil spirits and rakshasas were already extremely high-level specters, they had not yet escaped the category of ghosts. They still lacked physical bodies, and could not possibly create such a tremendous disturbance.
Only if one evolved into a night yaksha or a fiendish asura would that be possible, beings already on the same level as ghost kings, all of them having reformed fleshly bodies.
Even so, their power would still be forged from resentment, baleful qi, and yin energy.
Only after evolving further into demons and ghost immortals would their power transform into demonic spiritual power and immortal spiritual power.
Not long after, the final boss finally appeared. At the far end of the burial field, the ground split open, and a skeleton crawled out.
It was a giant skeleton more than three meters tall. Most importantly, every bone in its body was green, and the soul fire in its eyes was a mass of dark jade.
Above its head floated the words "Green Venom Skeleton King 36," with a long health bar beneath.
Its evolutionary path was completely different from that of the Skeleton Warriors. The Skeleton Warriors were evolving toward bodies that were ever harder and soul power that was ever stronger.
As for this so-called Green Venom Skeleton King, it had made its body into a vessel of deadly poison.
Only, no one knew what sort of poison it was. Could the body immune to a hundred poisons that he had gained from consuming countless Hundred Serpent Pills withstand this skeleton king's venom?
But whether he could resist it or not, he had no intention of testing the poison with his own flesh. He was not Shennong.
What made Li Yunfei's expression change slightly was that after the skeleton king crawled out from beneath the earth, it too was continuously leaking dark green soul power, yet judging from the rate at which its health bar was falling, the sea of thunder clearly was not dealing it much damage.
If this went on, it would likely take at least half an hour of soaking in the sea of thunder before it could be completely ground to death.
But how could it remain obediently in the sea of thunder?
Indeed, the moment it crawled up from underground, it spread its thick leg bones and ran madly toward Li Yunfei.
With a body nearly four meters tall, each stride covered over three meters. The two sides were only some forty meters apart, and at the Skeleton King's speed, it would burst out of the sea of thunder in at most five or six seconds.
What was more, when it was still about thirty meters away, it raised both hands and actually condensed two green spheres of energy, each as large as a millstone, in its palms, then thrust them toward Li Yunfei, who was standing high atop the table.
The green spheres flew at a respectable speed, but unfortunately, after traveling only about twenty meters, they were already worn away by the sea of thunder.
Even so, this startled Li Yunfei. This Skeleton King actually had ranged attacks.
He dared not tarry. With a backflip, he leaped down from the table, swept his hand to store away the stacked tables and summon them again, this time placing them side by side.
Then, gripping the peach wood sword, he danced the sword incantation repeatedly, and the great talisman banners behind him flew out one after another, streaking straight toward the Skeleton King.
By the time the Skeleton King reached within about ten meters of the edge of the sea of thunder, it once again condensed green spheres of energy and was just about to thrust them out when the talisman banners arrived.
Banner after banner wrapped tightly around the Skeleton King from head to toe, finally halting its charge for the moment, and naturally the energy spheres could not be fired.
Crackle, pop...
Once the great talisman banners had bound the Skeleton King, the Three Powers Demon-Subduing Talisman Array upon them took effect, clashing violently with the Skeleton King's soul power and sending sparks flying, green smoke billowing, and sharp crackles snapping through the air.
However, Li Yunfei noticed that the banners were rapidly wearing out. Thirty talisman banners in total would probably not last even a minute before they were destroyed.
Seeing this, Li Yunfei was furious.
As the saying goes, when a common man is enraged, blood spills within five steps; when an emperor is enraged, blood runs as a river; when an immortal is enraged, heaven and earth are overturned.
But when a fabulously rich man is enraged, even immortals tremble.
In one breath, Li Yunfei bought out three hundred great talisman banners and stacked them neatly upon the adjoining tables.
Then, without pausing for a single instant, he continuously swung his sword incantation and directly sacrificed all three hundred talisman banners in one go, wrapping the Skeleton King into a giant cocoon.
This was splendid. The Skeleton King now had to endure the dual assault of the Three Powers Demon-Subduing Talisman Array and the sea of thunder. It would be hard for it not to die swiftly.
The rate at which its health bar decreased instantly tripled.
