Chapter Fifty-Nine: All of You Will Die Here

“Mist Explorer”
[Mission Description: A mission settlement can be carried out once the total population’s exploration of the grey mist region reaches ten percent.]
[Mission Requirements: Use the lantern in your hand to illuminate the paths you have yet to walk. Exploration of difficult and important areas will grant higher evaluation.]
[Current national exploration progress: approximately two percent.]
[Current personal exploration progress: …]
[National Mission Rewards: Explorer armband x1, hard black bread x9, Mist Points x30, All-attribute Enhancement Potion x1 (permanent).]
[Personal Mission Rewards: Rewards will be distributed according to circumstances.]
[Hint: You vaguely sense that this mission will have some unknown effects, the nature of which cannot be determined…]
[But it is clear that this mission can raise the battle level of all players.]
“Enough riddles.”
Colin read the message several times and, finding the hints completely useless, dismissed it without hesitation.
“The ‘Civilization Investigator’ mission—before it, I was already curious about what happened in this world. With it, I can be even more proactive…”
“…But this mission truly offers me significant advantages; I can obtain information that others have difficulty acquiring through its hints…”
“As for the ‘Mist Explorer’… it happens to coincide with what I need to do next… No, honestly, both missions fit perfectly. After all, the underground region I need to explore is not just extremely dangerous but hides a wealth of historical secrets…”
At this thought, Colin’s expression grew slightly odd. Was it just his imagination, or did it really feel like these missions were tailored for him?
At that moment, he suddenly sensed something and looked up to meet several hopeful gazes.
The few survivors present, at some point, had begun to look at him with shining eyes.
He tilted his head and pondered for a moment; he didn’t even need a hint to realize what their purpose was.
“Rest assured, regarding these two missions, aside from the black bread and Mist Points, which I’ll collect, I won’t take any of the other items from you.”
Colin gave them his assurance.
Though he could take these things and equip his absolutely loyal servants, there was no need.
“That’s great!”
“Thank you, Colin!”
“You really are a good person!”
“….”
Hearing this, they visibly relaxed, smiles spreading across their faces, without a shred of doubt.
The name Colin was enough to guarantee his credibility—no need for questions.
Moreover, after interacting with him, they had learned that Colin was not a double-faced person.
Yet, watching them, Colin couldn’t help but feel a bit… strange.
Page 2/3
It was as if, after eating at their table, he left their pots and pans behind because the meal was good—“Remember to wash them well, I’ll come eat again next time…”
That was the sense of incongruity.
“By the way, Li Hang, inform everyone else about this.”
“Yes!”
Then, Colin took out the “Twisted Soul” of the Lord-level aberration, placing it in his right palm.
Like the other souls, the pale blue flame burned quietly, giving off no heat.
But the color and the twisted humanoid figure inside were a bit clearer, and the inspiration value required to fully accept the mission was greater than fifteen.
[You deem there’s no threat to your life in accepting this mission.]
[You believe your inspiration value exceeds fifteen…]
After instructing Shana to keep an eye out, Colin, just to be safe, took out the “Meditation Headscarf” and wrapped it around himself.
Instantly, he felt his brain operating at incredible speed, all unnecessary external “noise” blocked.
Bang.
His right hand closed into a fist, blue flames burst forth.
Colin’s serious expression faded into a trance.
“…Bang…”
“…Bang!”
“…Bang…”
Compared to previous dreams, this one was deeper, more surreal, and everything was so quiet, broken only by the heavy footsteps echoing from time to time.
Within a dim and enclosed space, a tall figure wandered, clad in golden ceremonial robes, a black headscarf, a silent mask upon his face.
Unlike when Colin first saw him, he was not in that grotesque state but walked upright like a normal person.
He wore fitted white clothes, not bare.
Yet even in his normal form, his height exceeded five meters; his back hunched, his physique massively muscular, like a giant out of legend.
Only his heavy footsteps and the occasional dull thud—likely striking down some creature emerging from the darkness with his weapon—disturbed the silence.
He seemed to be silently guarding something.
During this “long” vigil, Colin watched as the giant’s stature slowly increased, his body swelling and becoming ever more difficult to look at directly.
His height soon dwarfed the dark space, forcing him to crouch.
The clothing was gradually corroded by pus seeping from his deformed body until, as Colin had seen before, he was left naked.
It was a painful, prolonged process, but throughout, he remained silent, fulfilling his mission, blocking the arrival of some unknown thing.
This obsession—Colin had seen it in the priest once—was deeply moving.

Finally, with a heavy bang, his will vanished completely, and he fell utterly into aberration, collapsing before the “gate” he had guarded…
The vision was about to end.
Suddenly, Colin’s body trembled violently as a powerful sense of dread surged through him.
Something unexpected happened!
In an instant, mysterious forces from the illusory dream flooded over him, threatening to drown him.
What terrified Colin even more was that the scene before him began to change rapidly—he was about to be dragged into some dreadful abyss!
“No, this is…”
Colin’s consciousness in the dream abruptly realized he seemed to have returned to the “battlefield” from not long ago!
He was in the same spot, a female figure nearby, but all details were infinitely blurred.
The only “clear” thing in this world was the towering, charred, twisted “Silent Sentinel” just three meters away, reduced to a skeleton!
It looked down at him from above!
At this moment…
Colin suddenly remembered the abnormal behavior it displayed when he killed it—the slight bow of its head before death.
Now, Colin was lifting his head to meet the gaze of that terrifying entity, unable to control himself.
It was exactly the pose he had taken back then.
History seemed to be repeating itself, but in another form.
What should he do?
As Colin quickly wondered how to deal with the situation, he heard a strange voice.
It seemed to come from that silent, terrifying being before him.
It spoke only one sentence…
“Outsider, you will all die here.”
…
